Just received this in the mail. Now I'm wondering if 20,000 miles is worth $2500?

With effective from August 1, 2015* ("Effective Date"), the Yearly Thank You Gift of Citi Prestige Card will be changed to 20,000 Asia Miles, such change will not affect your entitlement to the welcome gift. For the latest Yearly Thank You Gift, please visit www.citibank.com.hk/prestige.

That's basically buying them for 12.5 cents a mile. It's not easy to achieve that kind of value when redeeming tickets, at least in Y. Average value is about 11 cents to me. If you're looking to redeem a specific award soon and you're short of miles though, you can consider it since it's much cheaper than buying them from CX.

Citi Prestige annual AM reduction

Got an email from Citi confirming the anniversary AM will be 20k AM if you got your card after 31 July 2014. If you got your card before then, it stays at 30k AM.

I hate to say this, but it's still marginally useful enough for me to renew.

I don't have to worry about PP and I'm getting kinda hooked on tengroup concierge.

Rehash of Winter offer, thankfully with simpler conditions

Buy Mannings $2,500 for seven weeks (no need weekend)
Get extra 1,400 + 600 RC (before any Home 6X / Visa Signature 3X bonuses)

So earn at least 2,070RC for $17,500 spending
2,070RC = 31,050 miles
--> $0.56/mile

No... deposit cash at least one day before your cash advancement to minimize any finance fee -> you may still be hit by a small amount of finance fee.
At $4.17/AM that means the HSBC Visa Sig is actually better than BEA World Flyer (except for bill payment and Octopus) - is that right?

Extra 3x at any of the 6x categories, yes.

However there are some things I have to pay for outside of the 6x categories - hospital, dermo clinic, insurers, even petrol.

I reckon for 2016, those who got the 30K AM will also get cut to 20K AM.

I think it is very ....ing cheeky of Citi to still be advertising the 30K AM renewal.

Percy,

Thank you for the heads up.
The offer is really confusing. Seems like there is also an offer for Times Square, not as lucrative. Can you please post the basics for Times Sqauare, how much spending max per week, how many AM that will yield, the max number of weeks and any requirements and special things to watch out for etc.
Thank you very much.

Thank you very much.
Times Square merchants in general are not designated merchant, so it just earns the other local merchant offer 5% of transaction amount in rewardcash, max 50 per week and 300 for promo.

(this applies for all other local merchants)

i.e. $1,000 per week for 6 weeks

That yields 300 rc = 4,500 extra miles for $6,000 spend
Include basic 24 rc = 324 RC = $4,860

$1.23/mile (same as overseas offer)
But the $1,000/week cap (min $500 per spend) (and you have to spend $3,000 during the promo to qualify) means this offer is not very attractive for use on other local merchants generally

---

Times Square bonus offer is simply an additional $25 or $50 Starbucks or shopping coupon per $500 spend I think (I didn't track last winter's...I just told friends and colleagues to buy seven weeks of Mannings and be done with it).

(Now my colleagues are sitting on 2,000rc each minimum from winter promo and wish they have cash rebate instead. They don't know what they're missing)

Does HSBC Visa Platinum earn at the same rate as Visa Signature? I see they have different income requirements. But both come with $800 RewardCash sign-up bonus, but the Platinum page says this can be redeemed for 12,000 airline miles.

Also, based on the eligibility section for the Visa Sig:

HSBC Visa Signature Card applicants are required to have an annual income of HKD480,000 or assets of HKD600,000 or above.
My income is a bit below the minimum, but I easily satisfy the assets test by a fair margin - would they give it to me?

Yes - both welcome offer and conversion rate of rewardcash to miles

VS earns 3X more at the 6X categories so it should be your plan A card.

Are these assets in HSBC? Someone at hongkongcard.com got approved on 17K monthly income but 600K HSBC total relationship balance http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=15021

If not, send it in anyway and attach asset proof with your income proof.

Just don't forget that with HSBC there is a $300 redemption fee for 1 year's worth of redemptions, which you can settle using RC or have it charged to your account (not sure if you will earn RC for this $300...).

BEA World Flyer doesn't have this fee.

So you will have to do some calculations to determine which one is better for you, which is dependent on how much you will spend and whether they fall under the 6X RC categories.
