How long does Cathay process upgrade request?

I know the question is sort of dumb

I usually fly CI back to Taiwan for summer break. This year, I just decide to choose CX rather than CI because the new low blow of CI's hard/soft products on board.

Book my ticket on Jan 22 (K class, travel on June 16 and July 29, SFO-HKG-TPE v.v.) and notify my father using his miles to apply upgrade on line. All four sectors have confirmed upgrade business. My father also provides my original booking reference number on line.

After that, my father and I both got email, which confirmed the upgrade request and said the ticket will be automatically issued before Feb 21.

I log on to CathayPacific.com and find out that I currently have two booking reference numbers, one for coach, another for Upgrade business. My father also tells me he doesn't see mileage deduction yet.

In this case, how long does CX process my upgrade request? Will CX wait until Feb 21 to issue the upgrade? Once CX issues the upgrade, do I also get email notification?

This is the first time I apply upgrade for CX flight, and it is a totally different system comparing with CI. I am kind of confused and worried.

Answers from you guys will be highly appreciated.

Thank you!!!

CX takes time to process award unless there is an urgency. I have no idea why.

When you book an upgrade, you can see both the underlying booking and the upgrade booking. When CX tickets, the mileage will be deducted and the underlying booking will be cancelled. They may process it anytime from now to a few days before the departing flight.

I think they do it all the time .. (which is actually good for us.. I have had a redemption booking to HND on JL and because they have this strange ticketing I was able to cancel the whole booking 2 weeks from departure)

Rebook upgrade

The upgrade is processed in March, and I now hold a confirmed round-trip upgrade business ticket. The mileage upgrade is sponsored by my family member. However, due to the changing travel plan, I have to come back States one week earlier (7/22) than the original traveling date (7/29).

What is the whole process of rebooking upgrade flight? (Through checking online redemption system, upgrade is available.)

Should I just contact CX's USA reservation center to reissue my revenue ticket and rebook my upgrade? Or,

Should I need to ask my family member contacting MPC to change the upgrade?

Any comments/suggestions will be welcomed and appreciated.

In general, any change before the first segment should be changed by the TA originally did your booking. However, in this case, once the upgrade is ticketed, your original booking should already be changed from HK to HX - cancelled by the airline. Once that is done, it is tricky. Your original TA cannot do anything on your booking anymore. Your sponsor should call MPC/AM.

Thank you cxfan.

What if my revenue ticket is purchased online by myself? Maybe I should just call CX directly to see what I need to do.

That is handled by CX eService. There is a toll-free number you can call. For all practical purposes, CX eService is a TA. Your sponsor should still call MPC/AM as your underlying booking was cancelled.

Call Asia Miles today. Because I will make a change before departure, it will invovle USD150 change fee. Therefore, Asia Miles agent asks me to call eService first to determine what I should do. Weird. I will call eService tomorrow to find out what the process is.

Does any FTer here have the same experience (rebook upgrade before the whole schedule departure) before?

There's no date change fee for the AsiaMiles awards upgrade part, so the USD150 must be in the fare rules of your underlying economy fare which also needs to be changed. The revenue ticket is handled by the eService Centre, that's why you need to call them. AsiaMiles can only handle the award part.
