No, the person was speculating.

"speculating" has too much certainty in this case, "daydreaming" seems more like it.

Does anyone here know an expected timeframe when these will be announced, and also when they will go into effect?

Why are we talking here as if the changes will happen for sure when we were just surveyed by CX on our opinion? Even if CX announces a change, I hardly believe it will take place within the next 3 months (à la IB). Last time, CX announced the MPO overhaul in Sep. 2015 with an effective date of Apr. 2016.

But considering that management is intent on down sizing CX to justify a merger , this strategy would not be surprising.

Inspired by the other thread:

What if SP and membership year resets together once a member reaches a new tier? So you get one whole year to move further up instead of half a year (or less) with points reset? It seems to be a balance between current system and the proposed “no SP reset”?

Umm...currently your status points and membership year do get reset together. You always get 12 months, and unless the new membership year starts on the 1st of the month, you get the remainder of the final month, too, for membership year always ends at the end of a month.

I got quite confused by the other thread, saying that your SP gets reset but not membership year. Sorry still figuring out the rules after moving back from BAEC to MPC.

what i just saw on the last weekend ,
all the gold & DM got upgraded.
in the past few month , i didnt see any DM upgrade & gold not upgraded , i always see DM + gold got upgraded together.

is it possible that the CX system already merge this 2 tier as almost the same level already ?

What do you mean by "upgrade"? All DM and GO received complimentary upgrades on ONE flight due to oversold? Or does this happen on many flights?

What's being referred here is technically known as an 'involuntary regrade' or better known as a free upgrade.

It doesn't happen on many flights, but there are certain flights that have a higher chance of allowing you to get one than others due to time of day/year.

DM and GO naturally have a higher chance of getting upgraded.

Sometimes known as an "op up" too.

Who says that?
Edit: I might have an idea what you are referring to. Your status points and membership year both get reset when you move from one tier to another. Neither resets when you meet the renewal target in the duration of your membership year. Hope that clarifies.

Reduce those goodies and people will consider the competition and the airline will lose out on bookings. With the consequence that people who book later can get better pricing (because the cheaper booking classes are still (need to be) available and you lose out on the extra money you could make on the more expensive booking classes, etc. This is a self-reinforcing effect

Make the goodies reduction to big and people give you the middle finger for the loyalty goodies at all and become free agents, which in turn does move the flight/airline selection to a price competition, which you desperately try to avoid with your loyalty program.

Airlines also seem to forget that once they "grow", the number of flights grow, the number of destinations grow, and the more attractive that the airline becomes for frequent flyers. So, I'd dare to say, if an airline doubles the amount of flights, the flying by frequent flyers will increase more than that, maybe even significantly more. So, when your flights double, take care to be able to honor/handle 3 times the amount of goodie requests, IE, increase your lounge capacity more than proportionate.......

Same message on CNN with BA in the role of superstar:

Frequent flyers have spent years staying loyal to airlines. Now airlines are giving them 'the middle finger'.

How does this change affect Cathay SL? Does this mean they'll lose benefits such as lounge access in outports but in return its easier for leisure travellers to get to Gold?

Perhaps the changes are to combat the increased number of DMs. There are more than 40K of us now.

What happened after 2016?

What is an EY DM?
