Internet access at The Wing

found out some details about this the other day and thought some of you might be interested...

at The Wing they have a few laptops available for free, short-time use by passengers...just ask any of the staff or the service desk...what's more, you can ask them for a wireless LAN card together with the laptop...then you can have access to the Internet anywhere in the lounge, browse the Web, check emails, whatever you like, again, for free...and I think the speed is very good too...much better than a normal 56 kpbs modem connection...but, of course, I think you can only access the Internet and not any corporate intranet...

and, if you are one of the many business travelers who already have your laptop with you...you can still borrow a wireless LAN card from them (probably need to install the software as well though)...this is especially useful if you don't have Internet access numbers that you can use in Hong Kong...again, usage is free...

of course, these are in addition to the 4 desktops they already have (in the library section of The Wing), which are equipped with broadband Internet access already as well...

Not The Wing in HKG but CX has also installed a desktop at its NRT lounge.

I was in THE WING last month and had to wait in line to use 1 of the 4 terminals...with such a nice lounge..they could use a few more...there is plenty of space for them!

Yep, what took them so long - in the business class lounge of the Wing. Yet to see any desktops in the First Class section -what are all those useless books on the shelves in the FC library anyway ? Take for example Air NZ DOMESTIC lounge two years back, copiers, four internet computers, laser printers, sit down work areas, local call access, mobile phone battery charges to fit ANY connector. Trouble is that in oneworld shared lounges there is often little attention given to the needs of their lifeblood, the business traveller. As an example at LAX shared FCL Qantas BA lounge that CX uses, there is just one phone socket for the whole lounge that people can make local calls for free on and this is what you have to use to get internet roaming so everyone queues up(and one sit down loo for the whole floor of lounges, and no shower, hey but that's USA).
I posted a year back that all oneworld lounges should be standardised, a copier, internet connection online with www.readmail.com available, desk level RJ11 phone sockets and power supply so you do not have to grovel on the ground looking for a socket, local call access, etc.
