CX + QR. Both AAdv and BAEC sounds like good programs. Perhaps BAEC even better with its strength within Asia.

Edit: Oh no, I forgot about the BAEC metal requirement. Then AA should be easier for OP.

Not really for pax flying to PVG only, and in Y. Old system, 80 singles trips for DM, current system, 120 single trips.

There is no need to join the frequent flyer program on every new airline you fly. Look at what ff partners they have. QR is Oneworld Alliance. Your QR flight could have been credited to AsiaMiles, if an eligible flight. You can retro claim for the miles if within the timeline and you have the documentation. www.wheretocredit.com/qr

The BA 2/4 segment rule is only for status. Cheep economy flight earn little towards status with any ffp.

.
Yup, learned about this too late. My QR flight was already more than 2 yrs ago. Don't think it can be retro claimed.

I'm going to earn 230 CP for my booked flights this year. I'll be going to Tokyo in January 2018. I can fly with JL in J which will only give me 50 CPs, 20 short for achieving Silver. If I fly with CX, I'll get 80 CPs, and I'll be Silver.

But, as of today, booking JL in J costs around USD1300, while it's USD4,000+ if I fly CX. Is it worth the trouble and money to try to reach Silver?

I'm based in MNL and I always pay for my tickets.

I don't think you should pay the extra $3000 for CX SL. Just not worth it.
instead you may wanna earn the missing CP via other OW partners such as MH who always has attractive deals in J.

I'm thinking of doing Tokyo via JL in January, then going to HK for Christmas with the family. But I prefer to fly from CRK in going to HK. And flying from CRK will only give me 10 CP. And I'll be 10 CP short in getting Silver. And CRK-HKG flights are all economy.

But flying with MH will make me connect via KUL. And it's more than 3hr flight from MNL each way.

MPC isn't valuable unless you reach gold (like what others already said) which is why I credit all my CX flights with AA but I do fly to the US (west coast) so it make sense for me.

Do you see yourself increasing your travel over the next 2-3 years that you will be able to hit Gold? If not, I wouldn't pay USD 100 to join MPC.

80% of my wife's travel are with CX, she is GO with CX now but if she credit all of her travel to QF or MH, she would be OWE. Is it worth switching over although most of her flight's with CX?

I might not be able to achieve gold. But since I book more Y fares, I think the little benefits from silver will already be good enough for me. And I'm certain I will be able to maintain the silver status year after year.

Anyway, I am always puzzled as to how CX calculates their fares. A lot of times, exMNL, their fares are almost always 2x that of other airlines. Like for this instance, JL RT MNL-NRT is USD1,300.00, while for CX its around USD4,400.00

I share the same thought too.

1. GR is not really a level. So there is no significant benefit for becoming GR.

2. Based on OP's claim, if OP did travel that much, I would email MPC for a free GR instead. I would believe that the MPC would not say no if OP's travel history supports the grant.

I don't know what dates you're plugging in but my MNL-NRT ticket priced at 1,400 USD on CX.com, but I ended up buying it from a travel agent for 850 USD under a restricted I fare that they weren't selling on the CX site.
