This is better. If your limit is 15K then you can pay up to 25K for 200RC this month (this promo was for four months - you need to pay 25K/month for four months to get 800RC)

Citi doesn't issue registration reference numbers (we've complained about this a lot on hongkongcard). If they take your registration I take it as prima facie evidence that the 10,000 limit has not yet been met. I use Chrome to register on Citi and save PDFs as written evidence in case a complaint has to be filed later.

OT: CCB - Android / Apple Pay

Just got a message from CCB confirming that they intend to support Android and Apple Pay in the near future.

Seems Citi is really being left behind on this mobile payment set-up.

HSBC 2% rebate

I read the exchange above. Is this applicable to HK salary tax payment?

Citi Shopping-Go-Round and HSBC PayMe?

Citi promotion for up to HKD800 rebate made on online transactions:

http://citibank.hk/english/credit-ca...ng-rebate.html

You think this would work with PayMe spend?

Note: "Ineligible transactions including but not limited to “Dynamic Currency Conversion transactions”, i.e. transactions with conversion from a foreign currency into Hong Kong Dollars involved at the point of the transaction, payment to the Inland Revenue Department, bill payment, utilities bill made with credit card via internet banking or online payment system, auto payment, mutual funds payment, casino transactions, unposted/cancelled/refunded transactions, split transactions, other unauthorized transactions and fraud and abuse transactions or any transactions made with merchants with merchant codes not defined as online transactions (as defined by the Bank/Visa International/MasterCard Asia/Pacific (Hong Kong) Limited/American Express International from time to time)."

So, clear as mud.

If we forget about AM for a sec, why would you take 200RC over 300HKD in vouchers?

Yes.

https://www.personal.hsbc.com.hk/1/2.../cards/prom225

As our selected cardholder, you'll receive an extra 2% RewardCash rebate for all incremental spending2, including tax payments3, which exceeds your individual monthly spending target (please refer to the promotional mailer) from 1 November 2016 to 28 February 2017.

Depends how much tax you have to pay:

HSBC: 200RC for $25,000 tax paid

Citi:
$50 coupon for $30,000 tax paid
$100 coupon for $50,000
$200 coupon for $100,000
$300 coupon for $200,000

I don't need to know how big your tax bill is.

But under almost all circumstances I will pay with HSBC first if I have it (I don't - I am not targeted customer and then triage the remainder over to Citi

There's also this https://www.sc.com/hk/campaign/tax-payment/ . I will use SCB's offer too before Citi.

Yes. Be aware HSBC 2% is a targeted offer. My missus got it so I know what beach86's talking about; but I didn't.

Citi's not alone - Bankcomm, Fubon, ICBC, Shacom and Wing Lung are all not on the bandwagon yet.

Apple Pay and Android Pay has its advantages of course - we can carry fewer cards and not miss out on offers.

Also the payment limit is huge (capped only by your card limit).

But there's a disadvantage (I had to hunt for a private message to me to confirm this) - most acquirers require DDA authentication if you use Apple Pay/Android Pay. Bit long at the best of times (7-Eleven's the best) and worse if your merchant is still using good ol' phone line for the contactless card terminal (759).

I reverted to using CCB Tastie at Maccas - it's SDA. In December when I was still racking up Apple Pay/Android Pay for BEA, it's the longer DDA.

This.

When I used Apple Pay (Amex HK card) in the US, it was like using an Octopus card. In HK, it's basically just storing your card on the phone so it still takes the usual amount of time to authenticate the transaction.

Sxc: you experienced SDA in US (same with me in Canada). I think we've been assessed as higher risk - dunno whether by Google/Apple or our acquirers.

Or is it just that HK banks are old fashioned and want a "typical" authentication?

I know this is rather OT but, having only just got my--delayed--bill, are there any other tax payment offers still ongoing? (in addition to Citi, SC and the targetted HSBC offer.)

God, I miss the days when we could run unlimited amounts through the CCB-HSBC wacky tax payment method!

What i don't understand is why Citi don't have contactless technology rolled out for their HK cards? It's silly...
