Thinking about leaving CX
So I have passed the million miles threshold last week flying from MXP (in J).
No acknowledgement of any kind anywhere.
I remember being upgraded for 500K and even 750K and upgrade aside at least a "thank you" would have been nice.
If this is how CX cares about premium passengers (I renew DM every 8 months and am/was one of the DM who did not think of jumping with new system as it does not affect me) I can just imagine they have decided to become an American Airline.
I live in HK so have considered myself captive but am now strongly considering shifting to SQ for intercontinental flights and shop around for regional ones.
Would have never thought about that 6 months ago but this is just the last of many small and not so small issues with CX lately (including discovering they had removed miles from my account without notifying me at all - miles had been accredited by mistake and I noticed them on statement but fact CX can just take them away without informing was upsetting. After I complained they started notifying DMs. I even got phone calls from management on that issue so they must have taken it seriously).
I am generally happy with on board service but ground staff is now a frequent source of disappointment.
So if there are DMs who are asking for status matches with SQ etc let me know. I can get status through J the hard way but access to best lounges and priority is a good perk to have in general.

you have answered yourself. now is time to put $$$$ where your mouth is. Join those like me who have been enlightened and released from self captivity (like you said you forced yourself to cx for living in hk) and see the bright new world. and those who still love cx are also happier as one less competition for that op up.
frankly speaking CX cares rats bums about your rant here. they have demonstrated premium loyal customers are not important. so i suggest you act and report back. by the way JAL is one world offerring superb product. thats your potential starting point.

Oh I am sure they don't care. That's perfectly clear.
Just want to make a smart move as, for example, JAL would work for US/Canada bound flights but not really for Europe.
Regionally, as said, I might go with best offer (but not too keen on TG, PAL!).
Will look at options and happy to hear advise from others who have made the jump.

I can probably still make DM (at least GO) for one more year, I'll stick around. Like I've said they are great when things are wrong. Urgh... tough decision.
Unless someone can tell me another airline that treats their elites very well when things go wrong.

I've done that with a SkyTeam carrier, because there was little incentive before not to do so. (I may shift more business back to CX this year to earn the DM upgrades @ 1600 points. If I can reliably book HKG - NYC J -> F upgrade 2x a year for me and wife, that is worth some loyalty from me. If it remain as big a crapshoot as trying for a mileage upgrade to F, I won't bother. )
CX has its good points, which one appreciates a bit more when spending more time on other carriers. It also can accentuate the areas where CX is weak (e.g. catering).
I've also moved some business to other OW carriers, but crediting to CX (eg JL on Japan flights - better food, and no J class seat lottery).

If u dont mind the stop, u can do jl between jfk n asia. But then ud lose frequency at the benifit of bonus miles.

I fly enough regional routes to remain DM and I do t have valid alternatives on those. But will definitely shift my long hauls to Europe and N America. Will give Jal a try to NYC and use SQ to SFO. Guess one of the gulf airlines for Europe will do. Hate not consolidating miles with one carrier though.

Anyway, I'm flying more AA domestics this year, let's hope these miles will keep me in the running for DM for another year.

what makes you feel JL to europe is bad? it cud be back.track but about same as sq. QR service a superb one but less consistent.
but lets face it you do enough travelling so dont get married to one scheme but may consider both oneworld and staralliance, and choose opportunistically. you can consider BA or Finnair even for flights to europe.
we been spoiled by CX frequency thus far to london but what should change....

Earning on other OneWorld & Crediting to MPC might not be a good idea
I think people will need to think carefully before adopting a strategy of earning on other OneWorld airlines and crediting to MPC as CX will be lowering the comparable tier rates for partners.
For example on a direct routing:
CX First to London earns 125 Points
BA First to London earns 90 Points
CX Business J/C to London earns 105 Points
CX Business D/I to London earns 90 Points
BA Business all earns 75 Points
CX PEY W/R to London earns 55 Points
CX PEY E to London earns 45 Points
BA PEY W to London earns 40 Points
BA PEY T/E to London earns 35 Points
CX Econ 1 to London Also earns 45 Points
BA Econ 1 to London earns 35 Points
CX Econ 2 to London earns 35 Points
BA Econ 2 to London earns 20 Points
This is pretty much the same across all partner airlines, there is significant premium on CX earn rates in First and Business as an incentive to fly on CX.
For PEY/Y the premium is a lot smaller, probably because CX are not interested in this group and have already placed a ceiling on these flyers ability to reach DM or GO.
Two Sector Routing
However if say taking QR to London then the 2 legs add up to around the CX direct flights, possibly a little more. So for direct flights going to a partner does not work well, but for indirect flights must accept the inconvenience.
Hope this is useful.

Thank you Nicc,
That is extremely useful!
Reason I think about retaining CX DM is regional flights that in most cases I will continue taking (what alternatives to MNL, PNH, even BKK in terms of frequency etc!). Most long-haul would be QR or JL so impact probably not that bad but this might be an interim step.
Thank you
Francesco
