Seat Guarantee

I called MPC recently to book a V-class on a HKG-KHH flight - they told me it was sold out and that, even as a MPC gold, I could only book into L class. I thought that was odd and declined it (and just used some Avios miles for the short hop instead). She told me specifically that the seat guarantee was just for an economy ticket, not for a sub-class?
Prior to this, my understanding was that as long as the class was offered on that flight, even if that class is sold out, the seat guarantee would give me that class at that fare price? But this recent experience seems to be no? Or maybe this is just changing?

DEEEEEEP discount fare (O/N) can be booked HKG-KHH-HKG.
However, next lower fare seems to be L.
So, probably, no published fare of V for HKG-KHH-HKG.
If you try to book HKG-KHH one way, only booking class Y shows up.
Furthremore, if you don't satisfy minimum stay requirement for L class, you can not purchase a ticket. Then, advanced purchase requirement has to be satisfied if applicable.
If you fly from BKK, I can find
BKK-HKG-KHH-HKG-BKK
V class (9500THB,3M), L class(11000THB,3M). M(12000THB,6M), K(14800THB,1Y)
So, you can book V class for HKG-KHH segment, However you have to find FARE !

Yeah that's what I mean.
PVG-HKG-PVG is available L+ only; in fact for evening flights it's K+ only. However PVG-xHKG-SIN-xHKG-PVG that I usually fly is available in V. For one-way tickets. PVG-HKG is Y only. However, PVG-xHKG-SIN is L+.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but does anyone know how one can check if a certain fare class is available for sale? I'm getting conflicting information from MPC's call center and would love it if I could see it via ExpertFlyer or something.

if you are trying to figure whether to use the seat guarantee (V class in Y), just make a dummy booking. if the dummy booking offers you a lower fare class or V class, you don't need to call. if it offers you a higher fare class, say H or K, then call reservations (for a new booking) or MPC (for existing).

The best way to find out for sure is to just call CX reservations and ask to use your seat guarantee on the lowest class permissible. You don't have to follow through with the booking if you just want to know the fare bucket and cost.
I've had MPO agents tell me the wrong thing a few times so its not much use talking to them about it particularly as they cannot book the flight for you.
If you're booking particularly last minute for sold out dates then checking on the website will just give you full fare Y tickets..

definitely call reservations not MPC as the final authority. Some MPC agents are great and can often be correct. But other MPC agents are a disaster and dispense totally wrong info frequently. And often you're none the wiser especially if it's an issue you're not too familiar with.
HK reservations, on the other hand, has their stuff straight when it comes to quoting fares and availability.

Well, it is not really necessary to call MPC or CX agent to get the guarantee V class seat. Any travel agent could do this too. If CX sell V class on the route/date you want, call your travel agent and tell him/her that you are CX gold member and offer him/her your MPC card number. The travel agent could send V class request to CX. Usually, CX would confirm the request in the same day.
However, please note that CX could NOT confirm any code share flight, even though the flight is operated by CX or KA themselves. For example, KA operate KA452 from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung and CX code share this flight as CX5452. In order to get the V guarantee seat, you could only book KA452, not CX5452 !

I think the agents usually will try to put you in whatever is the lowest class that is available (V or above that is). I usually just have to tell them cheapest class I can be guaranteed it and they understand.
