Seat Guarantee
Trying to book CX659 HKG-SIN redeye on May 23. However, V-class is not available/sold out for that flight leaving only V-class option is to take afternoon flights. Is it possible to secure a V-class fare for CX659 using seat guarantee for MPC Gold? Or this particular flight is not selling V-class?
Thanks!
Thanks!

It depends on tickets.
For ex-JPN,
V classes for any HND-HKG-SIN-HKG-HND are sold.
Fro ex-HKG, if V class tickets aren't sold for patricular flights/itiernary, you can not use seat guarantee for V classes.
Another example.
For ex-JPN.
V classes for HND-HKG-HND aren't sold, so I can not use guarantee seat for this ticket.

All HKG-SIN flights have V subclass sales (unless they changed it within a week as I just did my guarantee this time 5 days!). There are two V subclasses in fact, one with departure restriction and shorter maximum stay of 7-day requirement. For CX659 they offer both V subclasses - one price at $1830 + tax and the other is $3xxx + tax (I forgot the exact figure). You just need to call MPO to get your seat guaranteed!

That happens many years ago on SFO-HKG route. L & V are sometimes available as promotions and I was only able to ticket in M if L & V are "unbookable".

Seat Guarantee
Things might have changed, but I've used the V class guarantee ex HKG to SFO/AKL/DEL/SIN/BKK between 2009 & 2011. MNL was in L (lowest class sold back then).
Ex SIN, it works even when using a credit card linked promotional fare.

It's not what is sold, but what is made available. V class could of been sold out publicly, but it can still be available. It's all up to CX, you can't just call CX and say I'm DM/GO and I only want V class, it doesn't always work (granted most of the time V class is made available for DM/GO guarantee, CX is good on this part, so far.....)

Seat Guarantee
Think it's dependent on the lowest published fare on a routing. HKG-MNL did not have a V fare back then, so I had to use L, while the other routes had V..
Have had no issues invoking the guarantee in V, on peak flights that were sold out months in advance- like HKG-SIN/715 on a Friday evening before a 4 day CNY weekend.

Instead of dealing with changing tickets and such, I just call them 24 hours before the flight and guarantee a seat now. Sorry if that's screwing people, but they are bound to be oversold anyways.

To the OP - call MPC and ask what is the cheapest full mileage earning fare that CX is selling between xxx and xxx ?
MPC: L class
Then please ask them to book in that class.
MPC: L class is sold out, sir.
I'm MPC Gold...
MPC: Okay, yes of course.
There - job done.
You cannot book online when there is no seat available, so in order to use the seat guarantee, you need to book through either a TA or MPC..

I called MPC recently to book a V-class on a HKG-KHH flight - they told me it was sold out and that, even as a MPC gold, I could only book into L class. I thought that was odd and declined it (and just used some Avios miles for the short hop instead). She told me specifically that the seat guarantee was just for an economy ticket, not for a sub-class?
Prior to this, my understanding was that as long as the class was offered on that flight, even if that class is sold out, the seat guarantee would give me that class at that fare price? But this recent experience seems to be no? Or maybe this is just changing?
