Advice on potential problem
Last year, I booked an award ticket (using my American Airline miles) on Dragon Air and Cathay from Cambodia to Hong Kong to the US. This is a trip I will be taking this summer. I used a credit card to pay for the taxes. I ended up canceling the card earlier this year.
I just realized too late that Dragon Air or Cathay may ask for my credit card (which I no longer have). I've read on the internet that foreign countries often ask for the credit card as a fraud measure before allowing boarding. I just called the credit card company to see if they could reissue the card but they said it's past the window where they could reissue the card. So I am worried about being stuck in Cambodia since I don't have the credit card. Any ideas on what to do? I've got a couple of months until I take the flight.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've never heard of anyone being asked to produce the credit card that they used to pay for the taxes and surcharges on a redemption flight. In fact I think Cathay only asks for the card for revenue flights booked directly from them. If you book via another airline (AA in your case) or a travel agent then CX isn't taking the fraud risk, so they don't care. I'm confident you'll be fine.

no card.. imagine you booking via expedia or orbitz.... no airline would ask for the credit card .. passport/ID is enough of a proof...
and on the side note, if anyone ever wanna buy ticket for people somewhere else in the world, do not buy directly through airline if you are using your own credit card.

Same experience here. CX flight with AA miles: no card needed.
Some Asian airlines require the card you used to pay the ticket with, especially Thai and Vietnam Airlines, but not CX.

Hold a sec, when I said you won't get asked for the card, I just meant for redemption bookings.
When I make ex-China bookings and pay with an Amex over the phone (because the online system only accepts Unionpay, Visa, or Mastercard), I have been asked for my card 100% of the time.
If you are making a booking for someone else, you can sent a copy of your passport info page with a copy of both front and back of your credit card to the airline and that's usually enough to clear the need to present a card upon check-in. And I have found they will only ask for the card if your 'Manage My Booking' page lists such requirement.

However - as others have confirmed, for award bookings on CX made through AA I have never been asked for the credit card (that includes checking-in in China, Thailand and Hong Kong).

FWIW...
I have never been asked to produce a credit ever in any country on any airline that I've booked... I think they mention this as a precaution in case they think there is fraud or to comply with legal requirements with the CC processor.
