Unpublished differences between SL and GO

What are the main differences between being SL and GO apart from the published benefits?

I am now 8500 club miles away from reaching GO and have a trip from JFK to HKG in Y (8050 club miles) coming up in 6 weeks. Do you think they would bump me up early if I write in so I can use my GO benefits on the flight?

Thank you.

I have been 55K SL for years in the old days (5000K short, never bother to mileage run to GO), and they've never up me early when I write and ask about it.

Unpublished benefits may be something like higher op-up order, slightly better treatment from CC during flight, greeting from cabin head, but other than that, the published differences are major enough for you to go after it.

If you need 8500 miles but the flight will only give you 8050, why would CX promote you before the flight?

Of late, other than higher priority for op-up, I can't think of a single difference that is unpublished. Frankly, as a Gold I can say that on the ground and on board (other than op-up) I haven't received any unpublished benefits for a few years now.

Unpublished benefits used to be plentiful few years back but 2-3 years back they suddenly all disappeared. I think this change happened at the same time that PEY was introduced.

Even for DM the unpublished benefits are gone.

Who are training these new CX crews? Has CX handed over crew training to Air China and not vice-versa?

I don't know why you keep putting down CA crew. They are fine for most flights, just they have to deal with a lot of 农民 flyers and their BS.

And there are a lot of good benefits on CA like I still can get award space requested on demand from paid seat, free upgrades during check-in, and I think they introduced ways for some folks to get higher status more easily like I think if you get 70%+ of the required miles for an upgrade five years in a row, you get upgraded.

My dad(cx go) and i (jl owe) hv gotten water and drinks from up front when we fly. Better opup chances, esp when u do seat guarantee.

I dunno, what else do u want? Oh. Ive once told them to protect me a meal choice.

I mean no one is doubting they have a tough job, but CX cabin crew used to be in an entirely different league before this whole CA crew-swapping business. The intention may have been to raise the standards in both airlines but the reality is that it has dragged CX to their level.

Very much agreed. Not sure why a few are against. But experience tells.

Can I suggest to all that we leave the cabin crew discussion to the other ongoing thread?

Are you going to be flying elsewhere across the OW alliance in the near future? if so, then Sapphire/GO is a very useful step-up from Ruby/SL as it gets you business class lounge access, priority boarding etc. In contrast, SL will get you very few benefits outside of a CX/KA flight.

To stay on topic, I would say GO from SL is a great leap forward with the published benefits:

1) Guaranteed Y seats (72 hours), very helpful to get that V fare tickets.
2) One extra guest to the lounge, very helpful for couples, or bring a buddy
3) Better op-up chance (unpublished benefit)
4) Better service on-board (arguable)

I would say if you have a chance to get GO, go for it.

I had more op up as silver than 2yrs of gold... My 2cents

The type of flight you would be opupped is elite light anyways, the type of flight you won't get opposed has plenty of diamond in front of you.

Mind you seat guRntee is a hoax.... When you really need it over CNY they don't sell any cheap V or L class anyways, lowest bookable class is K or H...

Oh hang on it's not a hoax... When your grandma die and off chance all the 4 daily flights are fully booked and you choose not to fly any other 4 carriers....yes your gold plated card might work.... Off that, unless ur grandpa tells you he will pop off 72hr prior to dying you can't use ur guarantee

Seat guaranteed isn't design to get you cheap fares, it's to make sure you get to travel the dates you wanted even if it's sold out. It's probably an unintended consequence that most people use seat guaranteed for cheaper V fares.
