I've found that the HKIA desk to be quite helpful (and definitely much more helpful compared to the hotline). Not sure if I can describe in detail since I don't know if what the staff did was allowed, but they definitely gave me a lot more information than those on the phone regarding waitlist clearance and loads etc ;)
Thanks for the tip! I'll be at HKIA anyways on Sun, maybe i'll go speak to someone at the CX desk.. x |

can anyone help check for upgrade availability on 21/10/16 lax-hkg on flight cx883? both wife and I are on the wait list as separate booking reference #'s. thanks in advance! |
It's not immediately available now.
Upgrade same availablity as straight redemption, only different priority: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post22897273 |

This morning I encountered a pretty extreme example of withholding from partners. This time it's affecting QF FF as well as BAEC:
31/12 HKG-KIX AM: At least 6 seats on each of CX562 and 594 (I can go all the way down to payment page this time) http://www.hongkongcard.com/webedito...5516_29783.png BA: one seat on CX562 (result is the same no matter which country of residence is used, I tried switching) http://www.hongkongcard.com/webedito...5620_89652.png QF: not more than 1 seat (if one seat, CX562 was available) http://www.hongkongcard.com/webedito...5704_87617.png If CX continues with this I see fewer opportunities for burning Avios. Basically, the airlines have learned expensive lesson that showing true availibility for redemption bookings is costly, because of the very large numbers of searches people do. True availability requires a call back to the revenue management system, taking into account POS/POC/frequent flyer tier/ currency/ current demand/ supply balance etc etc So rather than show each other the true availability on search, you use a cache, and only update the cache when required. But there is then a risk that the cache and reality are out of sync, and when pax actually makes booking, so sorry, not available. The way to reduce this risk is to be conservative on what the cache shows. So even if CX has 6 seats, you tell your partners you only have 1. And you only need to update the cache when you go to 0, (or more seats opened up) rather than updating the cache from 6 to 4 back up to 5 etc. |

Not necessarily. This could just be a side effect of cacheing.

But what isn't oneworld or its members throwing out the window these days?

But it'd be horrible for planning purposes if CX is really drip-feeding availablity to its partners - are we all going to have to "test" CX availability on BAEC and cancelling if we get it wrong? |

stupid question, but how do you know they've cleared your waitlist. Do they call? Text? Email? Do you keep watching BA for award space and call back? Curious as to the earliest they've ever cleared your waitlist.

Regarding waitlisting on a CX flight as an MPC member:
I made a request for an award booking in J class for my mum a CX return flight from HKG to LHR in December (peak period, I know) back in July, while she was still a basic Green member. She recently re-qualified as a Silver member last week. Does this upgrade in status affect her chances at nabbing a seat here? |

Just a higher priority. Subject to a lot of the usual variables

Hey there - hope someone can help me... I've been waitlisted for a J award on CX101 HKG to SYD on 16 OCT 2016 for several months. Award availability in J for the week of 16 OCT is showing nothing at all, so I guess my chances are not so good :(
Would anyone be able to look into J loadings for this flight and give me some visibility? |
