Loading is here F2 A2 J9 C9 D9 I2 W9 R2 E0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S0 N0 Q0 O0 I don't know how to interpret that....cheapo PEY sold out, but I fare also only 2 seats left. I guess it looks good? Fwiw it seems like from people posting here, PEY generally has the best odds of op-ups, and by extension I would think PEY->biz Asia Miles upgrades should have a decent chance. The reason is the PEY cabin tends to be elite (in-particular CX elite) light. |
Could someone please advise the flight loads for CX162 (SYD-HKG) for 28th Dec? I have an E class ticket in PEY and am MCP silver - just wondering what the chances of an op-up to biz might be!
Thanks in advance!! |
Hello all, was wondering if I could get an idea on the loading for CX170 (Per-HK) 29th December 7:35AM. I'm sitting in R hoping to use Asia Miles to upgrade. MCP Gold. wondering if I should start hounding them now or later on the phone or closer to date.

Looks like a good chance for op-up. I'd think an upgrade with miles should be possible. Depends on if CX thinks theres a chance of wooing revenue pax for paid I class tickets. But with I7 I would think MPC would confirm. If you want to burn the miles, I'd call every day to try for a confirmation. I'd also think instant upgrade very possible if that fails. |

Thanks in advance!! I think its borderline chance for op-up. No way to know how many elites in front of you and 4 PE seats left. Even though only Y1, I'm seeing a fair amount of empty Y cabin seats on the seat map. Not sure if that's because the seats haven't been allocated yet. A little closer to depart date, EF should be showing seat blocks. This time of year there may be good possibility of over booking Y cabin. |
Thank you so much! Keeping fingers crossed! ;) If there are diamonds in economy, could they get preference to upgrade straight to biz, or is op up usually a 1 class upgrade too?

In general, from what I read on here it seems like PEY is the sweet spot for non-CX elites or lower tier elites to get op-ups. The dynamic of one-class upgrades (for the most part) is the reason why. |

CX321 J1 I0 W1 E0 Y1 B0 Nobody's moving. If you have status you might rank for cannibalisation opup |

It is not much, but hey, a freeebie is always fun. I would have loved the longer heathrow upgrade, since they made use of the 3-4-3 b777s. It is quite a squeeze. But still, it is very nice to get free things |
When can you apply the instant upgrade? Tried to do so just now and was asked to come back to the lounge desk at 1.5 hours before the flight Thanks! |
On a recent longhaul flight, wife and I booked separate tickets (hers on CX, mine on AA). She's MPC Silver, I am OWE. She got upgraded to PE from Y - nothing special for me with an AA ticket on CX metal. I do fly on CX way more than she does so it shouldn't be a "CIV" score thing.
Out of curiosity, we asked nicely if Silver should get preference over OWE and didn't get a straight answer (CX staff out of SFO is pretty clueless - one even said MPC Silver is higher than OWE (no proof one way or another but I remember seeing a chart on FT that surmises OWE should having higher priority over MPC Silver). Usually, there's no way of knowing who got upgraded to what via which status they're holding so the results were somewhat interesting, but my suspicion is the difference with the ticket stock was the difference maker here. |
Very interesting anecdote @triplefives above

Upgrade Possibility
I'm booked on an economy class Cathay BOM-HKG-BOM flight this month. Booking classes are Q and N. Is there any possibility to get an upgrade to Business class, via either outright purchase or through using miles (which I would have to purchase/obtain)?
I am looking for a dream scenario where I am able to upgrade for a cpl hundred $. Thanks. |

I am looking for a dream scenario where I am able to upgrade for a cpl hundred $. Thanks. Also, you can only use miles to upgrade one class. So from Economy you would only be able to upgrade to Premium Economy. (Unless your destination has no Premium Economy) In general there is no cheap way to upgrade to business on Cathay. If you want Business you will have to pay the fare difference, or at the minimum buy an (quite a bit more) expensive ticket and then use (quite a number of) miles to upgrade (and hope that CX releases upgrade availabilities). |
Could someone please advise the flight loads for CX255 on 20th Jan? Thank you very much |
What about the upgrade bid process?
I've only just come across this a couple of weeks ago. Is this available to all ticket classes? I have a 2 x 2 sectors Q class flights coming up next month (LGW-HKG-BNE, MEL-HKG-LGW) and currently when I put my reference number in, it says: Unfortunately your trip is not eligible at this time. Looking at the FAQs, if I join Asia Miles or the Marco Polo club, my chance "may" be better for an upgrade, but I want to credit my miles to BA (paltry at 25%, but still better in that scheme than one I'd only realistically use once or twice a year). So, would I be able to switch crediting to BA after the upgrade period closes, ie the day before the flight say? Also, with the comment about original fare paid, would that mean someone on a Q class ticket would need to bid more than someone on an M or full Y ticket? The difference between what I paid and the current PE price is more than what I would pay but I would consider the price of the exit row seats or around that to be something I would consider. To me, that's the opportunity cost of PE. But the general impression I'm getting is that the upgrades go to those who basically pay the fare difference to the next cabin. Would people concur with that? |

For MAA to HKG, chance is slim. It is W2 R0 E0 because of the married segment CX884. It is in fact W9 R9 E9. For CX884, it is difficult to say. There are potentially many CX elites and AA EXP on that route.

Bought the SFO-HKG PE sale on black friday which booked into E fare. On return flight, was upgraded to J, as OWE on A350 (CX 892). Flight to HKG J looked full, when I was upgraded on my return flight there were 3 empty seats. This was done on the day of, my online checkin the day before still reflected my PE seat. Probably helped to have a weekday return versus a weekend.

So...CX made a video about this. LOL

Was PE completely 0'ed out? |
Expert flyer has been all wonky lately with CX. Was flying SFO-HKG-SFO in PE. Showed almost full on way out then around a day left 9+ open in each cabin. I verified I could at least book 6 seats in any cabin, but arriving at airport staff said it was fully booked (while they were still selling tickets online). Same thing on way back. Return ended up overbooked in Y and PE and my wife and I got upgraded to J. Walked back to PE to see at least 2 open seats left. Must have had some last minute no shows or something strange was going on with seat management. At least we got to keep the upgrade :-)

otoh, maybe a tour group missed a connection |
Ticketed R for CX 690 31 Jan and CX 659 4 Feb.
Gunning for a W>J upgrade but told the outbound is waitlisted when they are still selling I both ways with 4 seats left. E is still selling for the outbound. Inbound is cleared. Wonder what's up with CX redemption inventory |
