Hi all,
Is there any way of checking mileage upgrade possibilities PE to J on LHR-HKG for 14, 15, 16 August? Thanks in advance! josh Calling and asking is the only reliable way, or if you have an underlying PEY booking (W or R fare) the online tool sometimes work. Long answer: In the pre-pandemic days I used to play the R->U mileage upgrade game on YYZ-HKG for several years. Straight redemption on the website does not have the same availability for mileage upgrade. Many times I have success securing the mileage upgrade when there was no straight redemption available. There might also be one time where straight redemption was able but mileage upgrade was not available for some reasons. EF availability may or may not help. Many times I secured a mileage upgrade (especially close in) when I fare availability was 0. (e.g. J3 C2 D1 I0) Bottomline, calling seems to be the only reliable way. Especially once within T-4days or so when waitlist for mileage upgrade is no longer possible. On the other hand, contrary to certain beliefs, I don't think calling and asking repeatedly will increase the chance of securing the mileage upgrade. All they do is just check the availability I believe. |
Could I request Asia miles upgrade at Frankfurt Airport on the day of departure before the flight? Will there agent from Cathay who can process it for me?

Thank you. The CX Team in Frankfurt was quite competent. EF was showing J2 for the flight departing in 2 hours and I thought i had no chance, but I approached the check-in counter anyway. The supervisor checked the load and said: I need to check if you have the required balance in your account. It was unbeliablely smooth and quick, in no time I was upgraded from W to U. |
So just do understand this correctly, upgrade awards book in the same booking classes/fares and therefore have the same availability as direct redemption awards in the desired class?
|
Any expert here has tried to pay miles/cash upgrade for redemption ticket at check in counter? Specifically for HKG-KIX early November PM flight.
There has been no J/CL redemption availability after checking for almost 2 weeks, but I see flight should be open in business. I will call to AM if there is availability, but just wonder if this is allowed at counter. |
Can Asia Miles tickets be changed to move into a higher cabin class on the same flight as the original booking by paying the mileage difference and potentially change fees (preferably without taxes and YQ recalculated)?

Reissue of AM ticket will always result in tax and YQ recalculation regardless of whether you’re travelling on CX or partner metal. |
What's thr best mileage program for CX business classbooking
Hi,

Booked PY with Alaska mileage. Am I able to use Asia Miles to upgrade at check in if seats are available?
|
I have PE flights booked (cash) MEL-HKG-NRT and return and want to upgrade with Asia Miles if possible. At least the MEL-HKG segments.
Currently the outbound MEL-HKG is Y4 W0 J9 and only 1 seat available for 2 to select, so looks promising for an Op-Up, we are OWE/OWS, but would rather transfer and spend the miles to secure. Currently no award seats available, how long pre departure is the best time to call in for an upgrade? |

I have waitlisted an upgrade from Y to PEY using Asia miles. Should I use my status as a CX silver or OW Emerald? which one has a better chance?
By the way, will it be possible that I can upgrade from Y to J if available? |
Which has a better chance, use asia miles to book for business class, or pay for PE then upgrade using miles to J? This is for RT HKG-LAX

Found the availability for a flight (CX288) as such:
J7 C6 D5 P3 I0 W0 R0 E0 Y0 B0 H0 K0M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 Meaning, no Y and E tickets being sold at all, however they are still selling J. Does it means they basically are overbooked in Y already? |
Hi all, I read the sticky at the top but didn't seem to answer my question. I'm doing LHR->MEL with CX next month. I have a Y ticket but am OW Emerald.
I got the email about reserving seats and did so, however does reserving seats in advance reduce my chances of getting bumped up for an overbooking upgrade? Thanks in advance. |

Does anyone have any (anecdotal) information on how CX handles operational upgrades with a child on the same booking as a status member? Am I passed over automatically (would they assume that the child could not be alone in the lower class cabin)?
Thanks! |
Just to confirm: mileage upgrades are priced by sector, correct? So a LAX-HKG-KUL upgrade to J would require 28k for LAX-HKG (long type 2 PE-J) and 17k for HKG-KUL (short Y-J). Or can I get both sectors for one 35k price (ultra-long PE-J)?

No, you are booked in T class, but you need a W class or R class ticket to use Asia Miles to upgrade to Business.

First time flying with CX, so I would be grateful to have my expectations set realistic...
Snatched a good premium eco fare to HKG from Europe for end of April and I am interested in mile-upgrading LHR-HKG (wishful thinking ) with Asia Miles, I was told by the CX hotline, that an upgrade to C would cost 25k oneway (which is fine), but there is no availability at the moment... Give that I have no experience with CX, is it even realistic that some inventory will open up and if so, is there some pattern (weeks before, lastminute..etc) of I should just check every day.. Thanks |

You can waitlist, assuming you have miles readily available.

I have an upgrade certification to use (mid-tier benefit). ExpertFlyer showing F1A0. I have submitted an online request and had it denied. Is it worth to submit again closer to the date? Any magical timeframe or is F class never going to clear? Thanks.
|
If you have EF then just set an alert for A class and check in periodically.
Do note that if it's within 72 hours then you'd be out of luck... |

CX might surprise you. ( It works for me most of time anyway. ) |
what is the average waitlist time these days to see if an upgrade request has been successful?
