Anyone else can't select exit row seats online?

At first I thought it's a bug, but it's consistent enough to be a "new feature?" If you wanted to click the seat you then you will get a pop-up that basically said you need to call CX to get the seat assigned.

Noticed this for awhile - have always had to call MPO to get an exit row seat assigned. However, I have a flight next week to PEK with my colleague (who is lowly AM) and I can select an exit row seat, but when I try to put her in one it asks to pay or use miles for her. A week later I am off to Tokyo (by myself) no option to select an exit row seat. ????

Not 100% related to this thread, but I just wanted to point out that CX's seat assignment seems to have no logic now.

I have an upcoming HKG-TPE and TPE-HKG same-day turnaround. I had chosen seat 39C for both flights (this was done months ago).

This morning, got an email from CX reservations that my seats were re-assigned, due to switch of aircraft to 773. Although the seatmaps for both flights show many seats wide open, I was assigned to seats 71H and 72G, respectively. IN THE LAST ROW???

That is crazy.

I had to call in to reserve exit seat for an upcoming HKG-LHR-HKG flight in Y ...

... upgrade to PEY with miles seems difficult (apparently seats have been selling well)
... award redemption in J on waitlist
... award redemption in F on waitlist

Please please please give me PEY/J/F ... I don't want to be in Y (even in an exit row) !

I have flown twice to LHR in last few weeks in front cabins, took a peek at the sardine cabins through the curtains and each time never full, neither was the business class which seemed strange how I ended up in F 2 times out 4.

I guess by making it tougher for elite members to simply reserve it online, they hope that we are lazy enough to not call and they can actually sell those seats to non-elite fliers for $100 USD.

So CX is no longer releasing award seats on request to Diamonds? In the past if there was a revenue seat available, they would release an award seat to a Diamond.

Right, if the ticket is issued, elite members can select exit row seats online without calling the hotline.

Apparently not.

At the moment I have 4 waitlisted flights in J and 2 in F .... revenue seats are available on all 6 flights.

Some are quite far out (some are in Feb 2014) ... and I made the award request exactly on the morning that the seats were released! Still on waitlist though

After Amedeaus upgrade no longer systematic. However now it is based on actual loading and forecasted loading for release. Also some times they will extend this to your travel Companion (NOT OFFICIAL AND DON'T START ASK FOR THIS as it may be a 1 time thing!)

If you haven't PAID for the ticket, then why do they reserve you the emergency row when they can sell it for 100USD?

I have NO problems in selecting it after ticketing.

A very good point actually as I think in economy this is fair game, its not fair for an elite to block willing fare payers from getting the best seats unless the elite is willing to buy the seat.

However for me I think this should not apply to business and first class as I never have to fly economy class.

This is never the case for J and F class for exit rows - well only the 74A and 74K is applicable. However bassinet seats are a different block.

Why? The whole point of any affinity program is to allow the airline to identify its best customers and give them special treatment.

No real exit row issue in F, of course.
