Proper Protocal for Typhoon Delay?

To be honest on those flight leaving before 18:00 they probably pack with those Origionally booked plus all the MPC Diamonds (well certain extend golds) so I definitely assume its the best effort by staff at airport already (sorry but airline do take care about the elite of themselves before alliance member)

I also hope that CX throws him some sort of bone because I believe they handled this situation poorly... why waste his time going to/from the airport if they can't actually get him to Shanghai?

If you look at the plane in bound from oversea, they have planes that stuck at TPE, MNL, KHH, OSA, ICN if not other, mostly due to crew time out that they have to send replacement crew to those place to actually fly those plane back, which is limited by the amount of pilot and FA they can mobilize.
There are all theses cascade effect that a set of crew need to dead head to there to "rescue" the plane back to Hong Kong before they can be used for TONIGHT's departure, hence still many delay and cancellation, especially on short haul like TPE which they consolidate people on one plane.

i hv frds and relatives landed HKG successfully ytd, but it took hrs for them to deplane and get back the baggages. 
Apparently there is a lack of ground staff personnel to operate the apron/ground work, which is hardly surprising consider of this sudden typhoon which made a lot of unexpected OT by workers on the typhoon night, and thus subsequently rests are needed for them (juz my guess though)
dun think a good time to travel for upcoming 2 days due to the knock-ons...
Apparently there is a lack of ground staff personnel to operate the apron/ground work, which is hardly surprising consider of this sudden typhoon which made a lot of unexpected OT by workers on the typhoon night, and thus subsequently rests are needed for them (juz my guess though)

Flight CX829 Toronto to Hong Kong scheduled to depart at 01:40 on 25 July has been delayed. The new departure time is now estimated at 13.30 on 25 July.

What stops them from getting bags and refueling planes is the "thunderstorm signal in the airport" that is not known to the public.

wow...yesterday was not a great day to fly...must have given the operations team at CX a migraine just fixing thing up. Heard there were two flights, one from YYZ and another from AMS that got diverted to Manila.
CX904 which I normally take ay 6:20am left Manila at 1:05am this morning. Did they use the crew for one of those diverted flights?
The rest of the flights out of Manila were delayed for several hours...

A week is too far ahead, but if it's next week you are specifically interested in, its almost a certainty there wont be another typhoon in this area so quickly after the weather system we've just had.

Sure Vincente took away lots of the energy originally reserved in South China Sea, but 10 days (if counting till the end of next week) are more than enough time for a Typhoon to be developed from something unforseen. Right now there are two tropical disturbances near the Philippines, so definately not impossible.

Am at the Wing now witnessing the chaos at Gate 3 for a severly delayed Toronto flight. My heart goes out to the staff who are extremely patient in dealing with extremely pissed off passengers screaming at them. Queues are forming to the door with no apparent movement of the flight going anywhere. Kudos to the ground staff for being so patient.
