FWIW, I don't like the timing in either direction.

Mate, SEA is not really strategically located because of Alaska. Alaska, albeit a beautiful place, is not the bread and butter to source a consistent stream of premium passengers for CX's network. The population is incredibly small. There is hardly any demand for passengers ex-HKG to be flying to/from Alaska either, and as already mentioned CX covers YVR perfectly fine. I think you'll see DFW or a South American destination via North America ages before you'll see CX serve SEA. Or Washington DC, or even Boston before SEA. I just don't see it happening.

OP should have said this is an application for the slot at HKG, and does not necessarily mean this will denfinitely happen.

I am puzzled. I would think that if CX applies for a slot at HKG it will obviously be approved. And if CX has to release a slot from its existing schedule to get the new slot, they have already planned which flight to swap. Am I missing something?

For those who want to go for an Alaskan Cruise during May to Sept period will appreciate a SEA destination as an anternative to YVR.

But I was just comparing EWR vs SEA.. EWR can be served by JFK so I rather have SEA.. of course other US ports may hve better commericial value than SEA.

It might be slightly off topic but wishing that CX will have at least one South American destination from HKG. SQ has San Paolo from Singapore so why not CX do the same. It is just the fare of SQ is much higher than CX.

CX has a flight to South Africa (JNB) which I tried already. so why not South America too as it has so many wonderful places to visit.

Slots on HKG side had been applied, while EWR slots are said to be traded from Eva Air (BR) with a pair of JFK slots. So pretty much BR gave up their spot in EWR so CX can enter.

I doubt anyone who actually lives in the NY / New Jersey area would endorse that statement. It takes three trains and several hours to travel between the two.

Ah, now you're talking. BOS/HKG nonstop. I'm all over it.

I agree with you. Living in North Jersey, I will take EWR any day.

I'm all for this (obviously) since I assume it will help with award availability! ^

I actually think HKG-BOS could work in the future. There is certainly a lot of student demand, and I always see J passengers on the HKG-YYZ flights connecting on to BOS. But perhaps this is still not enough demand, and probably not enough premium demand.

Certainly for BOS the 77W is too big, so they would need a smaller aircraft to fly the route. It will be interesting to see how JL do when they start flying 787 to BOS from Tokyo.

total lack of any significant chinese community would direct CX away from SEA. surprised by EWR but makes sense to compete with CO. similar with CX moving to ORD to compete with UA. Good move for them.

At the same time, I think that moving to DFW would be a good move to help connecting AA pax there. The only problem, is there is not a significant East Asian population there.

What "A" route are you taking? Basically all start operating from airport at or around 6a, and some heading towards HKG even earlier. [Except the once-a-day A33 to/from Tuen Mun).

Well, I have been hearing that DFW is next for CX as far as new markets being served goes. EWR will just compliment JFK service so technically the EWR market will not be a new one. DFW will not just cater to the asian population but business people as well.

Cathay Boy, don't worry. A double daily or even more can happen!! We might even see an 8x daily to the NYC area just like BA has 8x daily to JFK alone!! Now if T7 will be gone and extension of T8 will be done, we can see a CX lounge with the noodle bar!! Chinese dishes in NYC let alone Chinese noodles are great!!
