On most of my JFK-HKG flights I see Y 85-95% full, and J virtually deserted. While CX may have to overcome some structural issues with converting half of J cabin into Y+, but I'm sure they will come up with something.

The business model seems to be to keep the Y as it breaks even at 70-80% capacity, J/F are the max profits seats, but the Y+ is seen as the place to provide steady amount of marginal profits for airlines.

One of the specific problems for CX is the large size of their (inferior) regional J class in terms of seats on their intra-Asia 777 flights.

Oh boy... the level of maturity in this forum never ceases to amaze me...

The scary part is this is a forum that we know none of us are teenagers masquerading as adults...

If another poster made that comment that will be fine, but coming from you?
Your endless questions on upgrades and DM+ memberships are quite frankly just as annoying.

How do we know that you are not one of those teenagers masquerading as adults.

For a moment I thought you were Rejuvenated. Is this a new handle? Have you posted before?

Same thought here. If not, that's a doozy of a first post.

Hmm... a new sign-up single poster, IC6A, is that you?

If anything this "rejuvenate" affirmed my post about maturity of some of the members in this group.

Thank you for naming me. But unfortunately, being British, I am too 'high class' to do such a thing. And apparently to someone else I am still one teenager and I am innocent. how can someone like me doing such one horrible thing? Get a life my friend. My attitude towards most of the thing is I do not care.

And the gentleman/lady you are acusing of me registered in Flyertalk in October 2009. It might be his/her first post but he/she had been here since last October. You do not need to blackmail me.

I've flown at relatively peak times (except for once) on this leg and J is usually packed to the gills, as is Y. As the economy picks up, I feel we'll see a lot more occupancy in J on this route. It's a big one for business and its long haul...

hmm, will it still be possible to upgrade Y to J with miles or not? If not, it seems like an elaborate plot to introduce copays. OK, not exactly ;), but I'm not that thrilled about Y+. :)

Nor am I. I know that I will personally never pay for it and couldn't care less. I know what I sign up for by flying long haul in Y (always unless it's that very rare op-up). Sometimes time really flies and other times it drags. But if there is a sustainable market for Y+ and CX wants to explore such an option, I completely understand.

As another poster says, have a bloody sense of humor. Or is it humour?

For BA you can only use miles to upgrade to Biz class (club world) from Y+ (world traveler +)

It SUCKS if you can't upgrade to Biz Class with K class booking for CX...

I would suspect most of the Js you see are op-ups, which is exactly why CX wants to have Y+. But you are right that JFK-HKG is traditionally a premium heaven as there were many bankers and financial bosses traveling, however, the good times are dying.

I predict CX will only allow one class upgrade with miles, this is a good way to force people to buy at least Y+ fare.

hau cheng Jan 13, 2010 7:04 pm

Seeing how much I often pay for a K class fare, I think im better off looking at QF's Y+ which at present is at 10,000 HK (promotion) to Australia.
