Capital One usually does a hard pull with all three credit bureaus.
If you have a security freeze on your report, they generally will not allow you to submit a code for this report to be viewable.

If you've held this card before, it looks like you can get this bonus again. Data points: 1, 2. YMMV

I hold a total of 5 cards (3 renewed this year). I am currently at 4/24. Never been denied for credit. So why am I their targeted customer? Well this was a horrible credit mistake. Warning folks.

The fact that a bank's marketing department targets you has no bearing on whether or not their underwriting department will approve you.
Great data points for me folks, thanks for posting! Sorry it did not work out for you two, but your posts are very useful to some of us, me for sure in this instance. I received a mailer today for the 50K offer. Thinking this was a targeted offer, I thought about pulling the trigger on it as I should get approved right? Checked here first for data points, and based on your two recent data points I will take a pass as I too have an 800+ score but since I am at 5/24, with 4 of the 5 in last year, and 2 of those in last 6 months.

What is venture capital looking for?

I applied for a Capital Venture card yesterday. Got an email today which said I was declined. I have not had this card for at least 3 years. My FICO scores are 763, 797, and 729 for the 3 agencies.
I have never made a late payment in my life, have zero debt and always pay my cards in full every month.
So I am clueless as to the decline. I know that AMEX will not allow you to get the bonus rewards twice in a lifetime if the card is closed. Is there some hidden rule for capital venture that applies?
Or perhaps I do not have enough installment loans or other debt? (not that I am willing to abandon my completely debt free life)

In the email, or a later one, you are provided with a link to download the official denial letter which will contain the exact reason for denial. That should provide some clues.

Capital One Venture bonus and redemption question

I just signed up for the Capital One venture card last month. I am about $500 away from the minimum spend for the sign-up bonus. If I book my hotel with the card now (over $500), can I use that purchase to meet the min spend for the bonus then use the purchase eraser after the bonus is posted to redeem the miles for that hotel? Or can miles not be used towards the first $3k in spend?

Thanks!

Status messages by phone

Anyone know if Cap1 status updates by phone actually say application denied, or could “application processing” mean either denied or pending?

Anyone have any recent success with Cap1 recons? Or do they just say they'll send the app in for manual review to get you off the phone?

Earn 10 points per dollar though marketing tie-in with hotels.com:

https://www.hotels.com/page/capital-one-venture

Note that the offer requires booking through this URL -and- paying with a Venture card, which means that you forgo any bonus that you might earn using another online shopping portal.

Update: It appears that anything over 9/24 results in an auto decline. Customer service accepts requests for recon, but these requests are really declined without consideration as this is a hard rule, they just won't tell you directly. If you've had 10 or more card accounts opened in the last 24 months, do not apply.

I have excellent credit scores and 30 credit cards; the few I use each month, I pay off in full.. I applied for Cap One Venture card after receiving a mailer. Got turned down. Sent letter to Richard Fairbank email I found here. Got a letter with another turndown, from someone who gave name, phone number, and PIN code, saying "I'm glad to help any way I can." Do I give up or make one more call, and if I try again, what arguments can I use? Thanks for any advice, Judy

Judy,
If you’ve opened 10 or more credit cards from any bank in the past 24 months, Cap 1 will not approve you. Their customer service agents will cheerfully ask if there’s any new information they can provide for manual review, but it is really a pointless loop. Their EO is useless now as you’ve already experienced. I don’t think they really even look at the app if you breach their 10/24 rule. Nothing you can do but wait until you’re below that number and apply again from my own experience. Let us know if you’re successful though.

Where did you gather this information from? How many cases have confirmed that 9/24 is the hard cutoff? When was this implemented? Did a CSM explicitly say this to you?
Would love to hear more about this.....

From what I can gather this started at the end of 2017, see this article from October 2017:

https://travelupdate.boardingarea.co...rd-limit-rule/

Has anyone with 10+ accounts in 24 months had success getting a Cap1 card recently?

Data Point
I applied (for my wife) tonight for the Cap1Venture card. Instantly approved. Has opened 11 cards in last 24 months, but 4 of them were business cards. Never had Cap1 card before. Credit score hovering around 800. Very excited as was wondering whether the new restrictions on Capitalone included business cards.

I was approved for a Spark Cash card at 15/24. I have one personal C1 card.

This was NOT using the $1000/10K mailer but just a regular $500/4.5K app.

I applied using an EIN from consulting I do. Not sure what the limit or anything is, since it doesn't show up in my personal online C1 account. The app went pending, and after 3 days of calling the status number I got the approval message today.

$500 Capital One Bonus Offer that Just Expired - Still Possible?

Got a targeted offer for earning up to $500 cash back on a 0% yearly fee Capital One Business card, the one where I get 1.5% cash back on all purchases.

Was in the mail at my virtual mailbox, and got lost underneath a big stack so I didn't look at it until today, the offer expired 2/20/18. Is it possible to still get this offer somehow by calling in?

$500 would go a long way at the moment in my business, so just wanted to ask.

Many thanks for any help in advance.
