YYZ UP Express

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront...rice-1.3459482

Price dropped to $12.

I'm heavily in favor of this service, but can't make reasonable use of it due to the fact that I can't get to Weston from Kitchener on any reasonable schedule or speed. 90 minutes Kitchener->Weston + UP + boarding times vs ~55 minutes without traffic door to door.

LMAO Thats what the price should have been from the start.
I use YVR skytrain sometimes if I cant find any one to share a cab with back to UBC.
$11 round I think is the price for Sky Train(Although I dont need to pay any surcharge with UPASS Compass Card

For 27.50 its ridiculous

$9 is not bad. Doesn't work great for me as I'd be going to Burlington but it has potential since $18 total is a number that I am ok with. Still about 90 mins of travel but gets me right into Burlington and likely ok for late evening arrivals too.

is this really good news? i guess for some but welcome to Toronto and enjoy the airport express rammed with rude torontonians who care only about themselves during the morning commute...

i pitty rides in the morning and afternoon although perhaps high enough that it will still be too expensive for some from the stations closer to the city.

either way, i don't think this is good for visitors because frankly, people in Toronto are rude as hell on transit during rush hour. worse than most cities i have been in....

The initial pricing was insane and way unrealistic...whoever came up with the initial price needs to be fired.
Seriously...do you expect people to use an airport train that costs 27~30 dollars?

They might have been comparing to the Heathrow Express, which runs ~22GBP one way. Bad comparison though.

Not even close - I could name tons of places with worse commuters than Toronto (and I say this as a Toronto commuter who has suffered through it for many years!) In the big scheme of things most Toronto commuters are civil and as respectful as they can be in close quarters (including, for the most part, acceptable personal hygiene which has not been my experience in some cities around the world!) People form some sort of queue when waiting for trains, and I don't see people verbally abusing transit staff very often (but have seen horrific treatment of transit staff in other cities).

Nah. We will just have to really agree to disagree.

Don't you pass the airport driving from Kitchener to Weston UP stop?

The main comparison could have been the old Toronto Airport Express, until it stopped in October '14 when they realized there was no point in extending for another year when they would have a massive loss after the UP Express started.

Toronto Airport Express was around $27 one way, which was also an insane price in my mind. Although I did use it often, after having fun taking the city busses to the subway.

Yes, it was a terrible comparison. Everything is much more expensive in the UK, HEX isn't government run, and there are two other cheaper rail options to LHR (subway and Heathrow Connect). They should have benchmarked against other North American cities.
