Does/ Can Single Entry Visa into Canada also function as Canada Transit Visa?
Dear folks,
Good day.
I am planning for a trip to New York via YYZ. I am one of those who needs transit visa while transferring in Canada and entry visa if i were to enter into the country.
My question is- i will have a long overnight layover in YYZ, arriving into it at 6.35pm and the next flight into New York is 8.15am the next day. I hope to clear customs, get into Canada to get some dinner and Canadian air/scenery.
If i were to do the above, i definitely can't just apply for Transit Visa. And will need to apply for Entry visa. But the thing is, would i get into trouble if the customs know i will be flying out of Canada again in a few hours later?
Thanks for your advice and guidance,

I'dont understand well your question!
First of all if you have a Transit Visa which is usually valid for 72 hours depends in which country you are in(check it out first for canada how long it is valid)and then of course you can go outside the Airport with no problem
And a Transit visa doesent mean that you have to be enclosed like in jail at the Airport or transit area if there is one.
And if you have an entry visa go away as you wish as long as the visa is valid.
But check it out if you need a visa again for your return flight.

Dear W.Traveler,
My apology for putting this post into the wrong forum and thank you for moving it to the right place.
I called up Air Canada and was informed that with transit visa, i will just be allowed to transit airside and will not be allowed into the country as that would have already been considered entry and not transit. Please correct me if i am wrong?
Another scenario following your post above. Assuming i have a valid single entry visa, and for some reasons i decided not to go into the country last minute, will i be allowed transit in YYZ?

Yes you can,
If you have a single entry visa and you decide not to going outside,of course you can and still use your single entry visa for transit.
Also in this way your visa will be stamped as used and will be no longer valid.
But I dont no the immigration system in montreal, but if there is a transit area where you dont have to pass immigration and you are just going to your new gate, then nobody really knows that you are in except for your connecting flight.
Fact is if you have to clear immigration It doesent matter which visa you use it will be stamped as used.
Cheers.

At YYZ (Toronto) you might be able to use the intl arrival US onward departure check where there is a CBSA passenger check instead of entering Canada through a formal immigration and custom process. It is a passport check and then you are at US CBP preclear area for US departure where you go through US CBP immigration and customs. You will be in the departure area with limited amusement; maybe a simple lounge if you qualify.
Many US passengers transit through YYZ to take advantage of certain flights, their timing and cost.
As for Montreal I am not familiar with how YUL intl arrival US onward departure passengers are processed.
Since your flight to NYC is the next morning you probably will be force to enter Canada to spend the night because US CBP does not clear you into the US departure area for next day's flights.
