Perhaps the volume of transaction currently being carried out could delay things at Marriott &/or Tesco's.

Well, I know this reneges on everything I said but I bought points. 125,000. I transfered this to tesco using the code and it said 6 weeks but if this wasn't ok to contact CS. I did. I said can you do something, as tesco cut-off is in a couple of weeks, and they said it will take 2 to 4 weeks and wished me a "marvelous day".

I guess this will simply add a touch of excitement to my very full wine-filled life.

I had to post the reply from Marriott in all it's glory, when I asked why they suggested against the tesco transaction on their website that they might be able to speed transactions up a bit for those that were desperate. Sometimes it's just not possible to be angry with someone who is clearly so nice.
Dear Mr. Uk1,

It's a pleasure to receive your reply, thank you.

The information on our website is very general and not specific to the vendor for which you redeemed your points for. In speaking with our Tesco Clubcard liaison, the time frame for which the points are posted is 2 - 4 weeks. This is to allow for any possible technical delays that could occur and on occasion the points may post earlier than the allotted time frame.

There are some partners that will permit the express the posting of miles/points with the collection of an express fee, however, Tesco Clubcard does not permit this.

Thank you for understanding and the opportunity to be of assistance with your Marriott Rewards account.

Have a marvelous day!

Sincerely,

Just do what an old colleague, an English gentleman - think Mr Pastry, used to respond: 'I'm terribly sorry, I've made other arrangements.'

Hi - perhaps a daft Q - but anyway I'm slightly confused

Are you guys registering at Marriott (co.uk? or .com?) AND also at points.com? to carry out these process steps ? i.e. Where does points.com come into it?

If so what are the process steps ; or is it as simple as

AT Mariott (BUY MRPoints) ; AT Mariott (CONVERT MRPoints to Tesco CP's) ; AT Tesco (CONVERT Teso CP's to BAMiles)

Yes, its that simple. The only involvement by points.com is to provide the IT infrastructure for Marriott (as it does for BA - if you buy miles at ba.com your credit card is charged as points.com).

We have a lot to learn from Mr pastry. Didn't he do well! US Ambassador to the UN before they fired him.

I suspect that for Marriott this will be like discovering that there is a hole in the roof only during a torrential downpour. The "hole" has been there a long time - a rather favourable rate of exchange for Tesco CC points - but up to now the volume through this has not been particularly high. But now they have opened up the option of buying huge numbers of Marriott points the heavens will open .... let's see how long it takes for the buckets to come out.

We are a very small group. Really, we are. No more than a few hundred, less than five hundred, BA regulars on FT will exploit this.

The very idea of getting a Marriott account, buying points, converting them to Tesco CC points and then converting them to BA miles.....would leave most people reeling.

We overestimate our numbers so often. What killed the Tesco promos we knew wan't us, it was the Tesco Deals pikeys after MFi kitchens and bathrooms and firstchoice holidays.

FTers in the UK are, at best, a scrappy insurgency. Not the vast, standing army we sometimes think we are.

Yes but it is these very people who will add to the BA Mile seekers to make the Marriott Points Scheme burst with demand!

I have been reading these "other" forums and they are as obsessive about collecting Tesco Points as we are about the end game of collecting BA Miles.

And even those who are not obsessive collectors will still make the effort when they realise they can get that kitchen, holiday or watch all for half price for the sake of what is a relatively easy process when you compare it to the usual situation of making multiple wine orders or by stocking up on Chicken and Beef.

I SO hope this Marriott Point Scheme stays with us but I would not be surprised if someone decides to review the ability to bulk buy points with no limit.

Fair points. So to speak. But I still believe that that was then and this is now.

There is a fairly high barrier to entry to this game. The real benefit of this ruse comes only from laying out a fairly reasonable whack of cash (c.£640 to benefit from the 125,000 MR points to 35,000 Tesco CC ratio - the only level really worth playing it at)

The beauty of the Beef was that anyone could play; throw in 40 or 60 boxes of beef at 65p a go, every little helps. As a consequence, in the summer of 2005 there were tens of thousands of people chasing the beef. And, don't forget, lots of those people actually ate it. As food. No, really. They did. They got food and points. That was the big draw.

Now you just get points. And this time you have to be a slightly better funded playa, especially in the immediate aftermath of Christmas. I just don't see so many of our Tesco Deals bretheren being sufficiently liquid enough to play.

I agree that we won't be completely alone on this. If any of the other lot take it up it will be in nothing like the numbers we saw in 2005. We're not going to read about this in the Daily Mail. It's too pricey, it's too arcane.

I realise that all this makes me sound like your regulation BA board, public school, Oxbridge educated, patronising, metropolitan, hetero-flexible elitist. Pass me that cap, it looks as if it might fit.

Perhap you guys could help out one of us in the Colonies. Since I am over in the US I have no way of getting a Tesco number. Would anyone be willing to pick me up one email the number and then I can register it online?

Likewise if anyone needs and address over here its cheap and easy to set up a PO Box. There are tons of places like Mailboxes etc and they will even forward your mail right to you. I'm happy to help if anyone needs one.
