I selected LIH, was hoping for a schedule change and I was right.
Nothing changed except LAX-LIH-LAX

So I'm assuming these are all about the Tier points? For the initiated amongst us, what's the typical cost for such a trip, the levels of TP and Avios garnered? And why that particular route?

My route is because of making TPs for lifetime Gold, will make 1080.
Without HEL you will get 920 TP for about 1850 GBP
With HEL included it is about 2000 GBP from BUD, similar prices also from MXP

Obviously varies depending on what target the traveller wants to achieve in terms of Tier Points (most common reason for a Tier Point run…!) and hence achieving airline status.

the Budapest-Honolulu route via London, US East Coast and US West Coast in business class would be 920 Tier Points , plus potentially another 80 points to get from London to Budapest and back at the start and end of the main itinerary. A while back, these flights were available for around 1300. The route can be further extended by routing via Helsinki from Budapest to London, which adds a further 160 points if done on both outbound and inbound. This may or may not increase the price depending on dates, times etc

The route is pretty optimal as you are splitting the total journey into as many 140-point segments as possible - if you flew say budapest - London - Los Angeles - Honolulu it would only be 320 points each way.

This is giving me food for thought. Upgrading the trans Atlantic flights to First you can get BUD-LHR-LAX-HNL return for GBP3000. Charging this to my QF account I'd receive 720 status credits at a little over AUD7 per status credit. That is *very* good value for long haul.

Im flying in December, and doing a few days at the Four Seasons in Honolulu should be fun, if a little brutal particularly on the way back. Some tight connections on the way out, luckily Ill hopefully be able to enrol for global entry when I land in Boston on Monday afternoon, which should make life easier! Obviously the whole trip is sandwiched by a LHR-DUB-LHR.
