BUD-HAWAII run & meet-up thread

Since I think in the coming weeks/months there could be more than few people going to Hawaii from Hungary, why not start a dedicated thread?

My trip starts in 2 weeks, more or less standard TP optimized route BUD-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL/HNL-LAX-JFK-MAD-BUD. AA ticket, 90% AA flights (I didn't want to change from T7 to T8 on the outbound).

At the time of booking there was no good availability to transit in HEL without the price skyrocketing, and also the flight times where far from (my) ideal... but you can always count on AA rescheduling and cancelling something when you book with enough advance. So, even if I didn't get to add HEL, I was able to get the overnight layovers where I wanted, like in LAX instead of JFK.
The only downside, caused by BA first cancelling BUD flights and then switching MAD & BUD flights between T5 and T3, it's a +6h layover in LHR on the return. Also, I wanted to try a B2B coming back, but since I ended on the last service of the day to BUD, I'll have to spend the night there. I guess sometimes one can't get everything

Recommend the IBIS styles hotel at BUD airport on your return. Its right next to the airport only a 100m walk. Very convenient for a late flight especially after a long trip.

Thanks. If I had an early departure the morning after I would have used it. But since my next flight is at noon, I booked at the HGI (flex booking, I can still change my mind )

For those with the right type of AMEX (and if its open) the plaza premium lounge in BUD is much nicer and quieter than the BA assigned lounge.

Been trying to find these sometime around May, but the prices seem way too high, either that or the search just fails on ITA.

I've done worse before. I was hoping for some schedule changes to clean it up a bit, but the gods did not look kindly on me.

Itīs not easy.
Was about 10 hours work on ITA and Expertflyer over two days with several calls to BA to make my 10 segment trip.
Sometimes I get something together, but BA "We do not see I-class" so I have to search again.

When building up such a ticket, I sometimes start with transcon "I" class availibility and build the rest around.
For example in May 2023 there are only a few "I" on AA300 / 302

When did you book it? I had a lot of schedule changes, but I booked it in July.

April. I only managed to make one change so that I could fly club suites instead of AA. It's all good. I think this will be my last ever TP run as if I don't qualify organically in 2023/2024 I'll just stick to being GFL.
