I will note that being rerouted may not be under passenger control, so fining them could be a bit harsh. Meanwhile, passengers are instructed to bring allergies to the attention of the operating crew, as there's no mechanism to transfer allergy information around which is reliable enough (bearing in mind that for rerouting, this also has to work across all cross-ticketed airlines and when we see that ticketing systems can sometimes barely handle transferring names, safety critical info like allergies is a stretch).

While a serious food allergy would be concerning for many involved I have never understood why the fate of 200 passengers is impacted by the lone individual.

Is an aircraft setup differently, specifically short-haul, when the crew are aware a passenger has a severe allergy?
Unless service had commenced, I cannot personally comprehend why there was such an issue.

On a BA jet where we were told strictly no nuts to be consumed by anyone in any cabin due to a person with an extreme nut allergy. I don't see how my eating my trail mix 20ft away impacts but I wasn't going to argue with the crew.

God forbid you develop an allergy that could be potentially lethal and find yourself in the same situation. Rather selfish to whine and whinge about it.

I hope you aren’t correct, but I suspect you may be.

And most people who claim a "nut allergy" are nuts themselves, and do not travel with any form of personal treatment for acute allergy; antihistamine, steroid, or especially the Epi Pen. No they just announce that they are "special" and have a "nut allergy" and expect that the world around them will accommodate this issue.
And yes. I'm a Physician, with multiple life long allergies myself including to nuts.

”At least you got there quicker than if you walked” shouldn’t really be the level of defence we’re having to go to if you’re flying BA, but it says alot 😂
