Had an email cancelling the return leg of a LHR-JNB-LHR flight yesterday for September 23rd.
It turns out that only the 747 flight was cancelled, the second flight of the day is still scheduled and I have reticketed to that. Of course the borders remain closed and lockdown is at Level 3, it would currently need to be stepped down to level one before International flights are permitted, and with the infection rates rising, especially in the immediate vicinity of Gauteng, the chances of the flight happening are slim to none.
With that in mind I looked to rebook (or additionally book) for June 2021. Still selling the 747 flight.....

JED-LHR on 23rd Sept and LHR-SAN on 25th Sept cancelled
Only got one months notice of cancellation for the same set of flights in May now its two.
Not sure if that's good or bad?
LHR-SAN would have been 747-400 in the F nose

We are booked on LHR-SEA (BA 49) on 7th Sept., then on to Honolulu on the 13th Sept. returning Honolulu to LAX on the 29th Sept followed by LAX- LHR (BA282) on the 2nd Oct. The tickets were purchased on credit card in November 2019, so pre Covid. With the current FCO travel advice together with the US travel restrictions on UK arrivals we are hoping for a cancellation to enable recovery of the costs. BA are telling me that if there are no cancellations and we choose not to travel we will forfeit our ticket costs less some taxes, regardless of FCO or US Gov. advice. Any advice welcome.
PS we do have travel insurance, but that requires the FCO advice not to travel to be in place.
Thanks

Have a bit of patience! It’s ages away and there’s still a chance one of your flights may be cancelled before then. And there’s equally a chance that the voucher scheme is extended into September. My money (admittedly based on no evidence at all, just a hunch) is that there will be one more month’s extension of it, there’s still a decent chunk of early bookers who won’t want to travel and BA won’t want to annoy them too much.
If you choose to cancel your booking
You can cancel and claim a voucher to the value of your booking, valid for travel until 20 April 2022 if you:- booked before 3 March 2020 and are due to travel between now and 30 September 2020
- booked between 3 March 2020 and 31 August 2020 for travel between now and 30 April 2020

Thanks alex67500 and KARFA for your response. Does the travel with confidence dates apply to individual flights or the trip initial flight date, ie our trip commences in Sept but the final LAX-LHR flight is in October? The news is making Mrs Zandy much calmer.

they may not have been posted as much, but there had have been and continue to be large numbers of short haul cancellations. Most routes are either not running currently or running at well below 50% of normal frequency, and these cancellations are continuing to the end of August. I am sure September cancellations will start in the next 3-5 weeks.

So long as it is on one booking, then you're OK. Outbound has to be on or before 30 September 2020, return can be anytime.

How about the fee to pre-select seats, would that be accounted for or lost if choose to pre-book?

I'm due to go to Kix in December so am monitoring the Japan situation with interest. Fortunately it's a holiday booking so the balance isn't due until the end of October.
