Any idea what's happening with the 787-10?

Has anyone heard anymore about the 747 reduction in J seats? Is it true?

If IB acquire Air Europa, could we see IB become a Dreamliner only LH airline with BA getting IB’s A359s and BA sending some B788s to IB.

Why would they. Air Europa has 20-something 788/9s, most of which leased. Iberia - besides having a lot of Airbus experience, including supporting Airbus themselves in the build of A330 tankers - has more long haulers and, more importantly, fills 'em up pretty well. They need something bigger than a 789 to replace the A340-600s when eventually their time comes. Nothing stops Air Europa from going on with the 787s until their lease is up.

I don't see any reason why they would? A lot of airlines have a 787/A350mix. IB planned to take 16 A359, which is larger than the entire BA 788 fleet of 12. That would leave IB with ex AE 788, exBA 788 and ex AE 789, which would all need homogenisation to IB/AE spec. Its A359s don't have Club Suite, so would also need to be reconfigured. Not to mention that the 788 has a place in the BA fleet, particularly in opening small US cities. The A359/1 is too big for that.

Is YMMH a full 'freighter' now?

sbonathan Jun 3, 2020 3:55 pm

Don't if this is the right place for this but I see a 747 is plying the LHR-CPT route tonight. Is this new? I assume this is purely for freight as the flight appears as cancelled on the BA website.

It’s a repatriation flight arranged by the FCO.

I am amazed there is still a requirement for repatriation flights using 747s eleven weeks into lockdown. Who are these people who couldn't travel back to the UK sooner but now need to travel?

However ‘amazed’ you may be in askIng ‘who are these people‘ ...... it’s worth at least trying to understand some context here.

South Africa imposed some of the very strictest lockdown restrictions anywhere in the world, all rigorously enforced by police and the military. (it became an offence, for example, to take your dog for a walk or to attempt to buy alcohol or cigarettes). A blanket ban on international flights in or out of the country was announced in late March, with relaxation not due until late May.

Visitors who were ‘stranded‘ in the country were not able to simply ‘travel back to the UK sooner’, as many would no doubt have wished ; they have had little option but to wait whilst difficult inter-Government negotiations - detailed in TedToToe’s link - eventually allowed for a limited number of repatriation flights to operate.

Does anyone have a seatmap for the 787-10 with row numbers? The only official thing I can find is the BA one from the media centre but it doesn't have numbered rows! Seat Guru has numbered rows but not sure where they're getting them from.

Not very helpful! I said in my original post that I'm aware that SeatGuru has the numbers, but that I'm not sure where they're from (ie are they correct?)

The seatguru map is correct as far as row numbers are concerned. If you want to check for yourself just do a dummy booking on the BA website and pull up the seatmap on the choose seats section. I just tried 19th September to DFW and its there for BA193.
