Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation.
There's some currently available deals like stockholm-singapore on qatar. 560 TPs for about £1250 in excellent comfort.
or you could try arn-dxb (360 TPs for about £900 on finnair not always beds for the longhaul though )and doh-cmb-cgk (560 TPs under £700 only beds on 2 of the 4 legs) on sri lankan which is one of the best deals in TP/£ about at the moment.
One thing to think about though, if you get the points for gold this year you will be gold for this year amd 2019-june 2020, while if you earn your points after June 8th you'll get an extra year of gold as you'll have it for the rest of your 19-20 year and the 20-21 year (This would be my advice).

You might consider taking the soft landing to Silver in August and then book flights to get you back to Gold for two years (year earnt and the whole of the next). Trying to get the points to renew with only 2-8 April, over Easter and 29 May-5 June.is probably going to push you both financially and flight wise.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your loss.

From reading your post, your tier point collection year ends on 8th June so you would keep your Gold status benefits until the end of July then a soft drop to Silver. There may be some ex-UK summer sale fares ( I thonk there was ax ex-OTP fare to PHX for 1200 GBP approx but not sure if it is still valid)

The qatar fares look very good.

Good luck.

Regards

I am currently Gold, have been for a few years. Year ends 8 June.
I have taken no earning flights at all this year. I would like to renew status so I am on a mission to get my 1500TP. I will take a couple of flights to Spain but that's all.
I have previously done Hawaii TP runs, Cairo to SIN, etc.
The reason that I need your help, is that my husband (GGL and CCR) was a member here and used to book all the TP runs, using Matrix. He died suddenly in August, hence no flights for a while. I am feeling up to travelling again, and he would be very annoyed if after all his efforts I just let my status lapse without even trying, but the learning curve is just too steep for me to grasp this in the little time I have to get stuff booked.
I can travel from 2-8 April, over Easter (but I expect no bargains there) and 29 May-5 June. Premium for longhaul, and the odd night in an actual bed will be needed. Base airport is MAN. Obviously I want to spend as little as I can!

Is this even possible?
Over to the hive mind...
Sorry for your loss.

Quite frankly, though, I don't really see the benefit of Gold, especially when based out of MAN. Take the soft landing to Silver and see how it fits for a year. If you really miss certain Gold benefits, then you can TP run in summer 2020.

I was Gold for 10+ years when I realised that Silver (and/or my rewards in premium cabins) would get me into the same or equivalent lounges, check-in, security fast-track, etc. as Gold at 90% of the airports I was frequenting. LHR T5 being a notable exception (but if you are connecting from MAN then you are already airside). And 600 TPs is a whole lot cheaper and easier than 1500 TPs...

Is there a way to book this directly with an airline? (I assume Malaysian?) Their site doesn't show Perth as a destination. I can only see the options book with matrix suggests which come out a little bit more expensive than ITA suggests for specific dates I search.
BTW, the positioning from BKK via KUL will get you 1200 TP I believe for about £1700 if that's of any interest. I suppose if a person had plenty of time they could fly from EU to BKK and potentially get Gold in one journey.

I second that sound advice. For LHR based flyers Gold does offer some clear advantages over Silver (although for many they aren't earth shattering) but for those starting from elsewhere Silver is the sweet spot in terms of return on TP run spend. There's little to lose by taking the soft landing and then being in a better informed position to judge what suits.

I would imagine the OP has many more pressing issues to deal with anyway and has my sincere sympathies.

You can find this routing on the Malaysia Airlines website. Just select DEL to PER return. However, itineraries with Sydney is a bit more expensive.

Oh thanks. I hadn't realised that and actually I found it at £1079 which seems pretty good.

Try nesting two tix, like:
Day 1: Ticket 1 LON-XXX
Day 1: Ticket 2 XXX-LON
Day n: Ticket 2 LON-XXX
Day n: Ticket 1 XXX-LON

XXX could be a domestic destination, but also look out for LUX and AMS.
Good luck!
