Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Please see the links at the bottom of the wiki for archives of runs from previous years.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I'm happy to say you're wrong! The 4 qualifying flights must be ANY of the following:

- BA flight number (i.e. codeshares are OK!)
- BA metal
- IB coded and IB metal

Note even the IB franchises will work too!

I'm looking at the possibility of doing the AUH CGK run.
I'd need to get to AUH from BKK.
There are flights on Sri Lankan to position to ABU that cost £944 that I think I can make work. (BKK CMB ABU)
Not including any hotels I might need I've calculated 920 TP for a total cost of £1455. (Hopefully I've worked that out right)
This is late April.
AmI missing anything? Is there a way to improve this?

Are you meaning Abu Dhabi airport? Its code is AUH or are you looking at Haliwen Airport...

Help Getting To ATL

Firstly thanks for the feedback on using my AY voucher! Very much appreciated!

I am also planning a trip to ATL in June. O/B approx 15 Jun and back 24 June (bit of flexi either side). I have found a Prem Eco fare with BA/AA from INV via LHR and MIA and back ATL direct to LHR or via ORD. Price is £1031 and I can book this w/ Amex so get my £200 off. I will upgrade the return flight with Avios (I will make sure that BA have reward availability). So for £803 I get 220TP ( I think)! Is this the best deal for tier points for the time period I have in mind? I don't mind positioning out to another departure point (from Europe) but I think this is the best I can find.

Any suggestions?

Let's hope for AUH. Flights on AirWings and Trans Nusa, the only airlines flying to/from ABU, will sadly not earn any TPs

You could try the ARN-MIA that's described upthread, and book MIA-ATL separately? I seem to remember around £1200 in CW, so even if you book via Amex down to £1000, full TPs and Avios, and CW for both TATLs. Much better TP/£ ratio that way.

I got £1070 for DUB-LHR-LAS 19/6-3-7 premium our cw back. The return flight seems to be a lot cheaper for the higher cabin than the outbound. It was possible slightly early for a shorter time I remember, but only on a couple of exact date. This was 2 weeks ago but worth considering

Hi All,

I have a run where my first US port is JFK coming up and after several AA changes, my connection time at JFK has dropped to 3 hours and 10 mins. Now I believe I'll be arriving at Terminal 7 as it's a BA operated flight and will then need to transit to Terminal 8 for the AA operated JFK - LAX flight. I've also read that I may need to collect checked luggage before rechecking for the AA connection. All flights are part of the same itinerary and ticketed by AA, (when they had the ex-GVA/ZHR sale on), so my questions are:

1. Will we need to collect checked luggage to then drop off again?
2. Would a connection time of ~3 hours from Terminal 7 - 8 at JFK make anyone nervous? Or should that be enough time to clear immigration, transit to another terminal and board?

Thanks!

1. Yes, you WILL need to collect your luggage at the first airport in the US. Re-check will be directly outside the Immigration/Customs area.
2. 3h connection should be fine for this unless it is an unusual circumstance.
Gastrocnemius and bass_face25 like this.

Also, as BA Gold (oneworld emerald) you're eligible for Flagship check-in and if you don't have TSA-PreCheck, you should be escorted to the front of the security queue (may need to ask for it).

From my (limited) experience, it shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes from aircraft doors open at T7 to the Flagship lounge at T8.

Hi you amazing wizards of TPS.. I’m looking for some tips for finding a good value J fare to EZE or SCL at the end of this year!! I mainly use google flights for selecting multiple EU departure points. I thought I had a great fare from LIS LHR EZE but it was only showing availbility for 1 and is gone today :-( Any tips on any unusual routings that work out sub €2k pp would be amazing. Thanks in advance. PS very close to Gold for first time also. :-)
