In April 2018 BA announced that they had started a programme to refurbish the cabins on the Mid-J 747-400 fleet. In January 2020, this programme was completed.
As part of the refurbishment all of the aircraft involved have undergone a basic refresh which consisted of:
* Full aircraft deep clean
* Seats in WT/WTP refurbished with new seat foams and cushions as on Super Hi-J aircraft
9 of the aircraft received an ENHANCED refurbishment to bring the cabin up to the same standard as the Super Hi-J 747-400 fleet. This consisted of what is listed above plus:
* New carpets fitted throughout
* All curtains replaced
* New Panasonic IFE fitted in all classes
Note: It was initially believed that the enhanced refurbishment included LED mood lighting throughout, but this is not the case. All retained standard lighting. There were no plans to install WiFi to any Mid-J configured 747-400 aircraft.
Note: Aircraft that have undergone an ENHANCED refurbishment are shown in red
Aircraft are listed below in the order that they were refurbished and show return to service date, along with retirement date where applicable.

Hi, is there any way of determining which 747 aircraft I will be on next week? I'm due out on 16/04 BA0285 LHR to SFO, and dreading getting on board and seeing I'm on an old model with the terrible IFE. At least if I know in advance I can mentally prepare myself!
Just wondering how much in advance the aircraft is known?

I can’t believe I’ve been dodging the Mid J for so long but now I am hit in the face with one in WT the next couple of days.
Are there any pictures of the refurbished Mid J WT cabin anywhere I can find?

Should be the same as the super high j 747 cabins apart from the IFE could be different.

G-BNLN
Anyone have a recent update on the state of condition G-BNLN is in? I see it was in maintenance for 5 days at the end of March. It is scheduled for PHX on Thursday. I don't seen any info that much has been updated, seat coverings, IFE etc.

I'm flying 288 to LHR on Friday. I've been holding my breath about BNLN, 'cause I'm a little scared of what condition it might be in, as well. Based on my research BNLN has been scheduled every 9-10 days consistently since the first of March. So, it makes sense that it will do the round trip on Thursday the 11th, since it's last trip here was 4/1. I don't see Thursday's flight scheduled yet on FR24? Is there another place that also has the assigned aircraft listed? CIVD, VJ and VK have run 288/289 seven times in the last 9 days, so it seems like a good bet that I'll get one of those. The enhanced birds just don't really get this route much.

I found the post on FR24 that BNLN is scheduled for Thursday, 11th. It was in maintenance from the 24th to the 29th of March. So if it holds for Thursday at least I hope its clean and IFE working. Or gets subbed out..

I flew back on her from Miami to Heathrow on Saturday night.
She was definitely looking tired and needed a good clean !!!
I was sitting upstairs in club and apparently there was an issue downstairs with condensation dropping down on take-off onto an irate passenger.
The crew made up for the tired state of the aircraft.
Luckily I also had a magnifying glass with me to watch the IFE :-)

Well that looks to be in need of much more than a good clean. If you were on BNLN on Saturday it would have come out of 5 days of maintenance about a week earlier.

Any idea where CIVO is? I’m looking on FR24 and it hasn’t shown up for a couple of days, and doesn’t look like it’s scheduled today or tomorrow, either. Still waiting to see what 289-288 round trip LHR-PHX is assigned for tomorrow...
