Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

This sounds amazing. But given that I live in London, how could I make this work? Drop half the return legs?

Hi commnuity,

I need to go UK (or closeby) - Florida (ideally RSW to get to Marco Island but would do Miami) flying out Monday 24th September - returning Thursday evening 27th September / Friday 28th September. Premium Economy or better.

Thanks for any help

@wytco0 post 2790

I see JFK-CLT-LAX-LAS and return for $902 (GBP 683), which is GBP 1.55 per TP for 440 TP, departing Saturday 03 Nov at 05:00 and returning Sunday at 08:23. The fare (KVEUPNIF) only allows two transfers; trying to add a third transfer raises the price by over $100.

You might also consider two east coast same-day runs LGA-AAA-BBB-CCC and return; a few years ago setting CCC = RDU had some decent fares. Each of these earns 240 TP per return trip, so 480 TP if you do two of them.

This is very specific on route and time, so what have you found and what doesn't work for you?

This would be good but I cant get it to price on the matrix I am seeing $1523.80 for those dates (a bit less for a week later when i will try and do my run)

Sorry if I am being daft what would you recommend for AAA, BBB and CCC would it be something like LGA-LAX-LAS-RDU-LGA

You would probably struggle to get that in a day. A couple of other issues, I don’t think AA operate LGA/LAX, and that this route would also earn 360 assuming LAS/RDU is 2k miles.

You would be looking at something like LGA/PHL/CLT/RDU so fairly short hope so not a lot of time in the air.

RE the run to LAS: I am not in a good position to search this again right now; I will take another look in the next day or so using your preferred dates.

RE the east-coast run: The typical ones I have seen in the past were LGA-PHL-DCA-RDU & return or LGA-DCA-CLT-RDU & return. Each round trip is six short segments up and down the east coast of the US, earning 40 TP per segment - the routing rules won't let you take any 2000+ mile flights. (On the other hand you get back to LGA the same day you leave.) There are lots of other permutations to try; I would also try ATL and MCO as endpoints (e.g. LGA-DCA-CLT-ATL & return).

Not a strict tp run as such but have managed to get EDI-LHR-LUX CE return leaving Friday back Sunday 5-7 October with Hotel for £400. Using booking.com as a guide the hotel is c£100. So roughly £300 for 160tp. As per another thread will take Cws' advice and go on a day trip to Trier.

Thanks to the FT I will qualify for silver with this and an ex INV trip which will come in very useful for my trip to the RWC next year if I go in Y or W.

Edited to add also gets CX lounge for an evening meal on the way out.

something like that works quite well going to LUX. I have the following booked myself:

LHR-ABZ-LHR-LUX-LHR-MAN - £376 - 200 TP - £1.88/TP
LBA-LHR-LUX-LHR-MAN - £282 - 160 TP - £1.76

also there is a reasonable exDUB fare to HEL atm:

DUB-LHR-HEL-LHR-DUB - £389 - 240 TP - £1.62

Hi KARFA, these do look interesting, what dates are you seeing these prices for? also how are you booking them, I can't seem to get BA.com to accept the routing ( keep getting 120 minimum time between flights whatever I select).

Some very cheap flights to Malaga from both BHX and MAN in J using City Flier which are 80TP each way (note London flights are only 40TP). Not operated every day but I've booked BHX out return MAN for 5 days in the sun. Part pay with avios means 160 tier points for under £200! Good if you need just a few tier points and fancy a nice sunny break without faffing with positioning flights or going back and forth to Amsterdam.

Thanks for the tip, ITA didn’t like it at all. Booking it through BA multi city site seemed to work

I managed to get edi - lhr - jfk - ogg - lax - mia - lhr - edi for £1590 for 920tp which I’m happy with for a post Christmas holiday and no positioning needed!

Interestingly they’re all on BA code shares and the only BA metal is edi - lhr and lhr - edi
