Was shocked this morning to find the F lounge closed entirely and be shunted to the J lounge, where only a sad continental breakfast of defrosted pastries, cold cereal and unripe fruit is available. They couldn’t even be bothered to hard-boil some eggs. A truly sad showing.

Am I right in thinking that:

  • Galleries First is in progress

  • Terminal Improvements haven't started
The CCR is open and received a partial refurbishment late last year - new furniture covers etc. I don't believe any further works are planned to the CCR.

The new First check-in area is open, but a full First Wing (dedicated security channel) is still in the works. The First lounge is closed for a complete refurbishment, and the Club lounge will follow once the First lounge is open. When they reopen after their refurbishment, the lounges will follow the Galleries Evolution brand standard, which ironically removes the 'Galleries' brand from view.

Not sure about general terminal improvements.

The First lounge is closed for a complete refurbishment. The Club lounge was always better than the First lounge in any case, but hopefully that will be reversed after the refurbishment.

Not quite as bad as expected building works wise.

Forced to use a normalish check in desk and the F bit doesn't open until 3:30pm apparently.
Lounge isn't great to be honest. Starting to fill up with Japanese people so there might be a JAL flight due?
Usual status recognition.
Brooklyn lager isn't too bad.

Serious lack of power points in here. Found one and my universal plug thing keeps falling out so I've had to hold it up with my bag.

Just noticed the outside bit for the first time!

Off topic, but here early as I had a connecting flight.
Few cabin crew in the business cabin and the one next to me was in flat bed mode whilst we were queuing to take off.

.
JL uses T1 @JFK -- It was for the NH flight - even though *A, uses T7 and I guess the BA lounge.

By the way, were the F desks not open for the morning F flight pax?

I arrived before 2pm and was told the first area didn't open until 3:30pm although people were using the security lane a couple of minutes early at least.

First time I've seen ANA use the GC bit. There was a girl sitting on the left hand side with a *A / ANA sign in front of her.
Suppose they can charge $ for them to utilise the lounge, so a win win situation.

As for the CCR, they've added some extra tables from last time I was here (a while ago).
Laurent Perrier is the white champagne and Canard Dichene the rosé. OK, never heard of it.

What's the new bit they're building at the right hand side of the security channels? Got a quick glimpse and it looks like the check in pedestals for the first wing for AA in T8.

Will be in F ex JFK in a few weeks - so as I understand it, the JFK CCR is still open but the security lane between F checkin and the CCR is now closed? A short extra walk isn't the end of the world of course but it's good to be prepared!

Bump on this thread, I'm coming back from JFK on the 07:55 BA178 next week. The BA website is saying "allow an extra hour for security", does this mean the premium security slope won't be open, or is this just a random message that everyone gets regardless of status / cabin?

this is from BA website

From February 2018, we anticipate that security screening waiting times will be longer than normal at New York JFK due to terminal improvement works. We recommend that you allow an extra hour at the airport if your flight departs after 18:00. If you are eligible to use the Fast Track security at JFK Terminal 7 you should not be affected

I read a post that they have closed off part of the existing general security area as part of the construction work so same number of passengers in a reduced area = possible longer waits.

Thanks! Different message from the one I see on my booking (as a GCH, eligible for Fast Track)... would be helpful if they were consistent Please allow an extra hour when departing from New York JFK

1 February 2018

From February 2018, we expect security screening waiting times to increase at New York JFK Terminal 7 whilst terminal improvement works are taking place. Please allow an extra hour at the airport to ensure that you reach your departure gate on time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Learn more about the transformation that Terminal 7 is undergoing

Last week when I was there the slope queue was running practically up to where the row of checkin desks begins in the premium side of the terminal, staff were strongly advising everyone to join the normal security queue instead. A group of us eventually followed their advice, whereupon we ended up in another huge queue at main security, everybody got very flustered, and I only caught the flight because a kind member of security staff escorted me to the front. I won’t be flying return legs with BA for a while and yes I would allow at least an hour and expect to spent most of that in the queue based on my experience. I arrived at T7 at 18:30.

I would say that 30-40mins is typical for JFK "Fast" Track in the evening but that's because of the large number of flights, for the morning flight (which I've never taken) I'd expect it to be much quieter. I've put family members on the dayflights and they remarked it was "quick" to get through but I didn't ask more.

If you are in First they will escort you to the front of the security line, you just might need to ask for it.

If you are on the last flight (usually around 23:00), the priority security is usually empty if you arrive 45-60mins prior to departure.
