Thanks for the hints. Whenever I play with the dates I never get these prices.

Are there any rules on which days / dates / stopovers generate the low prices, or is it just trial and error?

Yes as Karfa says use Google Flights to price it up, then call BA and give them the flight numbers etc

BA.com won't let you book a multicity using Cathay / Cathay Dragon (who operate the BKK to HKG sector).

For info, my itinerary is/was:

Day 1. BA8454 16:00 AMS to LCY arr 16:25
Day 2. BA009 16:00 LHR to BKK arr 09:40 +1
Day 3. CX754 12:40 BKK to HKG arr 16:30
[7 week 'stopover']
Day 1. BA032 23:10 HKG to LHR arr 04:50 +1
Day 2. BA2764 18:00 LGW - AMS, arr 20:20

Ticket was about £1300 IIRC.

The LCY flight at the start is quite optimal because you can do an easy B2B, and it arrives into London 23 hours and 35 minutes before the Bangkok flight departs (i.e. it is the earliest first leg you can do without paying for a stopover!), so builds in plenty of contingency time.

I could have got an earlier BKK-HKG flight, but fancied trying the A330 long haul configuration seating.

No sign of the companion sale offer on BA today. Indications were that it would last till May 31, or till availability was used up.

I had been looking at fares every day from SAN and LAX to LHR for the Christmas holidays hoping for a sale for the last few months. I was at a conference last week and was rather busy, so never checked past Tuesday. Got home late on Friday and when I woke up on the Saturday it dawned on me that I hadn't checked in a few days. Grabbed the iPad and did a Matrix search and lo and behold, fare had dropped!

I had been looking at LAX for CW flights on the 747 and the 380 and J for the AA 77W to avoid CW dormitory class on the current SAN 777 service. Those had come down to around $2900, but I also saw fares in First at around $4300. A similar fare was available on the 777 direct from SAN, so I opted for that one. Looks like I'll get to see the T5 First Wing early in the new year.

AA would only offer the J/CW sale price on a mixed metal itinerary and I prefer to book through a AA codeshare, so another reason to book first as there was no such restriction.

Seeing decent £1150 return business fares with BA flight#'s booking onto AA codeshares from INV. Trying to find a magical September-Oct fare and INV (using Momondo) seems to be the best so far. holding out in hopes of better.

I'd be interested in seeing whether you can actually ticket those.

Momondo seems to display prices from various other OTAs and 2 of them have very dodgy reviews online (saying that customers have never been able to actually book at the prices quoted but always received a call back with a suggestion of more expensive flights).

the reputable / well-known OTAs on Momondo were / are all GBP200 ish more expensive.

so, be good to hear if anyone actually gets a ticket on the headline prices quoted on Momondo?

I've just posted in the ex-INV thread about this. When using these agents who don't ticket at the moment of booking online, I just call up straight after paying and ask them to ticket it there and then. Never had any issues with this.

Revenue intern needs to go back to their old position, he/she just wasted millions of pounds when they could have all gone to a good cause...

Hi folks,

looking to tap into the collective wisdom to ensure I'm not missing anything.

Wifey and I are heading to NZ (CHC-Christchurch) next March, with ideally two nights in SYD on the way out.

This is what I have so far:

25th March positon from LHR-OSL

26th March OSL-LHR-SIN-SYD arriving 2045 on 27th March

27th and 28th in SYD,
(separate ticket SYD-CHC on 29th, CHC-SYD either 16th April or early 17th April)

17th April SYD-SIN-LHR-OSL

BA £2461 in business.

Any other oneworld options/routes that I'm missing? Stopping in SYD isn't essential, we could fly into AKL or even direct into CHC, but it would have to be considerably cheaper for us to consider it...day or two in SYD is part of the holiday for Wifey really.

And another thing.......there are plenty of Avios flights from SYD-CHC-SYD, but they are all indirect via BNE or MEL, nothing direct. Is this normal?

Thanks!
