Rare to see such an empty cabin. Enjoy!

Thanks for that. Still trying to get a hang of posting pics. Returning via IAD next week and that's already full according to seat map. Same with Johannesburg next month.

I've just called AA to see about upgrading my I ticket to F cabin, and was told by the agent that it is impossible for them to upgrade codeshare flights (impossible, rather than fiddly). I'm not trying to do it with Avios

Does anyone know if that's correct?

It's an AA ticket on a BA A380 LHR-LAX. BA say there is plenty of F availability still.

The AUP is a specific BA thing so a codeshare partner can't do it. If it is being offered, then ask locally at Heathrow T5 Check In or at the Customer Service Desk airside.

One impediment I have encountered with AUPs is catering. Even if there are empty seats, if there is insufficient catering for passengers beyond those already ticketed, dispatch may refuse an AUP.

Sorry - yes, I appreciate that specifically AUP would be a BA 'thing' actually at LHR.

My question as more about general upgrading (with cash) in advance. I called AA today and they said it was not possible to upgrade on codeshare flights, which surprised me. Is that definitely the case? Is it likely to be due to it being an I rather than J fare?

It should be possible to rebook your AA ticket into higher class fares, but that would typically be at the same price available at the time of initial booking plus change fee. AA can have less punishing change fees than BA, or similar ones. So that's just a ticket amendment. POUGs aren't offered to BA customers on AA tickets, nor is UuA, so special priced upgrades are not available if buying via AA. The UuA is a real significant one since often at the time of purchase CW is wide open but First isn't showing anything available for UuA. Then a few weeks later, if sales don't pick up, First starts to be available for UuA.

I guess it's a downside of buying via AA that people need to be aware of. It's quite well publicised elsewhere on FT.

AUPs are available on the date of departure, subject to availability and past behaviour.

I know...I was just about to voluntary disembark and ask to be put on the next empty F flight across the pond. :-)
The CSL came to me shortly after boarding and she said "How dare they!". He was actually sat in 4A.

All in all a very good flight with unquestionably talented crew members.(ba.com/welldone in due course). CSD greeting and altogether one of my best BA F experiences.

Side bar- we landed at DFW and everyone(in club and further back) was asked to sit down because Customs had to board the flight and escort a passenger off the aircraft.

I assume these upgrades do get the TP for the upgraded cabin?

As long as you aren't booked on a Reward flight in the first instance.

Also, they don't always credit automatically and you may need to claim later
