I have no idea. They were wearing BA uniforms but with most outstations they are probably no BA staff. In any case they still have to use FLY now.

Sure... You really think an airline will customize the front end to death...

One interesting consequence of this: seat maps are now available through external sources (like ExpertFlyer) right up to departure. With the old system, it ceases to be visible once the flight goes to airport control.

That's a very welcome news! When I travel in economy I like to check-in but not retrieve my boarding pass so I can seat shift and have a CE-like seat with middle empty. This enhancement will make it much easier! ^

Aha, that explains why a few weeks ago at I was sat in my economy seat at MCO waiting for boarding to finish while looking at what appeared to be a live seat map of our MCO-LGW flight on expertflyer.

I think there were only two spare seats and the one next to me was showing with the X (?) suggesting that it was blocked, which welcome, as I hadn't factored when booking that MCO-LGW at the end of half term may not be a restful experience....there were scores of excited Mickey Mouse youngsters aboard.

I'm not sure whether the seat was blocked because the seat was u/s (I don't think so), whether being Gold helped or whether the guy on the other aisle was a VIP or... Anyway, my experience was that the live seat map was accurate and it's a nice enhancement.

Didn't realize NBO had already switched over; it was remarkably smooth checking in there, no delays at all. Even inquiring about other flight options for my connection was very quick (that is, quickly shot down!)

As far as I have noticed so far, these are the visible (to the passenger) process changes that a departure from a FLY airport entail:-

Any more? It may be worth assembling a list of reliably-observed changes and putting them into the wikipost.

Apparently they were having issues with this at NCE on Friday - gracefully handled by staff though, and bags made it to LCY without any issue.

Boarding, on the other hand, was a total s-show.

LCY problems this morning

Boarding at LCY (to AMS) this morning was very slow. Despite starting early (before T-25 mins) people are still straggling onboard at T+4. Gate agent apologised and said their system had frozen.

Now the turnaround manager is having to count and check passengers manually.

Altéa may be a proven system but BA's front end add-on isn't.

amusing that they don't publish as a proper tweet - they only mention it in response to a complaint !

Indeed, much like the exit row seat selection "glitch" which has only been highlighted on FT.

According to a check-in agent at DUR (who was surprised that I knew anything about FLY), the cutover date there is 14 April. I didn't get a chance to ask if that would apply to the entire Comair network or whether there are different dates for different stations.

Interestingly, a leaflet on the check-in desks expressly links the change to FLY to Comair's new standardised check-in closure time of 45 minutes (compared to 30 minutes now). Last week, I was nevertheless still allowed to drop a bag at JNB at 35 minutes, having waited an unusually long time for it to be delivered off the long-haul. If bags really won't be accepted after 45 minutes once FLY comes in, it may mean that I will now miss more connections there than hitherto.
