Friday, YYZ-LHR WT+ to CW on a sleeper flight.

Didn't feel particularly smug, but rather grateful for the ability to sleep on the plane. I also got three warmed up chocolate chip cookies with my chamomile tea. I think the CC liked me :-)

My wife just flew back HEL-CPH-SFO on SAS. Her ticket was in Plus, in HEL they upgraded her CPH-SFO to Business. She loved it.

BA25 from WT+ to CW.

A pleasant and welcome surprise for my first A380 flight. Saw it while checking in on-line the morning of the flight.

Two in a row - lhr-lax wt to wt+ and lax-hnl economy to 'first'. Not that smug with either; wt+ ended up with less legroom than I would've had in wt. First on AA not spectacular but at least some (basic) food and drink.

Unless I get upgraded from a seat to a bed, my gratitude/smugness is fairly limited

But did you really want to know that? Trust you are using RFS to the full, since that's one of the best levers into CE.
what's RFS?

why would a TA booking prevent you from receivieng an opup?

In the last 6 months i have received an op-up on outbound legs:

W > WT+ LHR > SFO

Y > CE LHR > BLQ

Car rental companies and hotels give you them usually because it's a benefit of having status in their reward programme.

I've had a few airline upgrades because it suited them to do it.

A wink and a smile usually works for me

The last flight upgrade I had on BA was probably back in 2005 or 2006 from ET to CE. I doubt BA sees it in their interest to upgrade me as I usually fly a premium cabin. But I certainly wouldn't turn it down!

No its no myth. Last month got 2 opups from WT -> WT+ (both company TA bookings so just to debunk that myth also).

Both flights were 'oversold', first was LHR-SEA, next was ATL -> LHR

SEA was in the new WT+ seats and certainly decent enough for a day flight.

ATL was old seats and infront of the bulkhead so no-one infront to push their seat back and lots of space.

Was I smug? No, but were a nice surprise and a bonus when flying for business so I made the most of it.

Thats probably put the evil eye now and I won't get any again for the next 20 years!

It's never happened to me, and probably never will...not with the tickets I buy anyway (O, G, Q etc ).

Nothing on BA recently, though most BA flights this year have been in CE, F or CW on a 3-class, so not many chances to hear the magic beep. Historically a pretty good strike rate on LH, very few on SH.

Did get an op-up from J to F on QR from LHR-DOH last week. As it was on one of their A330s, that was most welcome.

This week's flights are on U2...
