Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...
For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times
Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.
If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)
Or a slightly more interesting fun run
Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here
Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.
Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)
Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but I figured that if anyone would, it would be TP runners
I currently have a ticket from MAN to GIG next week, fare code EBCRGB MAN-GIG. It's changeable for a nominal fee.
I am considering tagging on a trip to SYD, so I'd do MAN-LHR-GIG//GIG-SCL-SYD//SYD-SIN-LHR-MAN

As the open jaw would be 8414 miles, but SYD-MAN is 10567 miles (GIG-MAN is 5788 miles)
I appreciate I could simply fly MAN-LHR-GIG-LHR-OSL-HEL-SIN-SYD-HKG-MAN or something and squeeze a few extra tier points, but I don't think I've got the energy, especially in Y/W - I'm not as young as I used to be!

so you fail that test. also: tickets on QF SCL-SYD are some of the most outrageous I've ever seen, now that QF/LA codeshare and operate a complete monopoly over the south pacific (AR stopped flying in APR2014).
Given the I class pricing ex-OSL (£1950 rt), I'd personally fly back to the UK them do SYD in comfort.

Also you cannot form a circle trip because only two international fare components are permitted.
Unfortunately going to Australia via the Pacific is often expensive and usually descends into YY fares.

Anybody care to suggest any options for the following. I am very restricted as to dates and trying to combine some work commitments near London with a 13 hour gap in an existing TP run in which I need to get from MAN to LHR.
Looking for a short trip to get a few extra TP if I can make this work.
Sunday 25/1 from Manchester or London to ??? and returning to London same day. Could also start ex-EU if I can get an early morning flight out of Manchester with LCC and therefore just looking to do ex-EU to LHR.
Monday 26/1 from London to Manchester late evening. The last flight from LHR is 19.50
Wednesday 1/4 from Manchester to ??? and return to LHR. Cannot leave Manchester until 09.30 and need to be at LHR by 20.00
Overall, I think this is not going to happen, but would be grateful for any possible suggestions. Think I am more or less looking for an ex-EU return flight to Manchester departing 25/1 with overnight stop in London and returning on 1/4 with an extra flight back to London on 1/4.
Not sure if this makes sense, but if you can give any ideas then that would be appreciated.

Just playing around with this and getting some tasty £1090 fares ex-DUB to OGG at the end of march, have a couple of questions though tried a couple of routing codes: C:BA+ and separately "LCY JFK LAX / alliance oneworld" but with neither one do I get a single result with the babybus, how do I force that as the connection?
Secondly for the JFK-LAX flight, are there any remaining 2 class services left? every date I've chosen just gives business (I) as the connecting flight.

Aceman, depends on the dates you are looking at for the babybus. No flightson Saturdays, and had heard of limited availability in I fare bucket, if I recall correctly, around that time of year.
As far as I am aware all AA flights from JFK to LAX are on A321 so all three class. If you cannot get babybus, what about LHR to BOS and then on to LAX?

Your new itinerary is an RTW trip, so why not give a BA a call and see if you can "upgrade" your ticket to an RTW fare (http://www.oneworld.com/flights/round-the-world-fares)?
Changes/no-shows are permitted without restrictions but a 125 USD penalty applies per transaction. Cancellation permitted with 90% refund. However given that T/R/E availability is likely to be limited you may be stuck on the changes front.
However the ticket cannot be autopriced, it needs to be priced manually by the RTW desk. This may take a few days.

Hi Guys,
A few people were asking for a newbie's take on the wiki and I'm probably as new as you're going to get! I've only been flying regularly for the last few years. I'll be a few hundred TPs away from gold by April so might consider a run later in the year so read the entire wiki in preperation.
What I found useful:
* The flights that trigger additional tier points (e.g. the > 2000 and > 6000 flights)
* The sample runs
* The discussion and Qs & As in the thread
What would be useful (imo):
* Advice on booking. I find this incredibly complicated as to when you can book through ba.com vs the CSC or aa.com or the aa CSC. What the benefits of each are, what the draw backs are etc. Without reading the entire thread I would find it near impossible to actually book one of the sample runs and get the TPs I was expecting.
* Some averages over the last few years. I know there's been some discussion as to whether historical runs should be included, so maybe spending a little time identifying trends or averages for the known information would be a happy medium? For example, over the last three years runs including LHR - DFW - HNL resulted in £0.99/TP. Just to give newbies a common trip to aim for in their run.
* Some of the gotchas (as we've seen above with TPs not posting correctly on certain AA flights, Length of transfer allowed, weekend restrictions etc. I realise this is all covered elsewhere on FT but for a newbie you have to keep about five windows open and switch between them. Whether you include this will, I guess, depend on whether you actually want this to appeal to newbies or not, or whether it's more for people who already understand the mechanics of TP runs (which is an absolutely valid viewpoint).
Overall though, this is a fantastic resource excellently presented. And the discussion in the thread is hugely valuable and informative. Thanks to all those who contributed.

Just playing around with this and getting some tasty £1090 fares ex-DUB to OGG at the end of march, have a couple of questions though tried a couple of routing codes: C:BA+ and separately "LCY JFK LAX / alliance oneworld" but with neither one do I get a single result with the babybus, how do I force that as the connection?

No there are not. Same for JFK-SFO. The EWR-SFO service was removed last year.
