Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520

Sorry another question!

Would like to book this itinerary but can't force BA flight numbers on the return leg? I have tried putting ba lhr in the its matrix for routing but it hikes the price up. If I phone up and try and book it is there any way of pricing it the same but being able to upgrade? Many Thanks

My question would be why do you want to force BA flight numbers? I haven't checked, but I am guessing the price is going up due to lack of I class availability under the BA flight number. Same TPs whether booked as AA or BA flight number. Avios is a little less on that leg booking with AA (I think 125% tier bonus instead of 150%) but that will only be around 2,000 difference I think.

EDIT: and you can UuA under the BA number of course, but on an overnight you may just want to sleep anyway.

So with this exact itinerary I wouldn't be able to UUA? Not to fussed about avios trying to burn them and want to try first on A380.

If you book with BA you can do, but if you booked with AA you wouldn't be able to. For the TATLs, you can UuA if booked under the BA flight number if there is F reward space, but if booked under the AA or any other codeshare you can't UuA from I class in to F.

215 TPs before End Jan 2016

Hey everyone, I need 215 TPs (awkward) TPs to keep gold into next year.

I know there's a J sale now ex-LON but not as good as the ex-DUB I took back in April (with OLD BA1 TPs)

I am thinking of the following options but looking for inspiration:

1. NY (or east coast) would be 280 in J ... wasting some TPs. Also I dont think that I could get east-coast for less $$$ than even 2x EU CE.

2. JER-LGW-MLA-LGW-JER would be 240 (but I would throw the last leg, so 200TPs, 5TP short!) = 2.4/TP

3. LGW-MLA I can find 316gbp for 160TP = 1.9/TP

Any other ideas from anyone? Given that I have 7months+ till my membership year ends, should I wait ?

Thanks!

Thanks for your help KARFA. Will give BA a phone now and see if they can price the same.

So ESFLYER95 has used itamatrix to do that quote. Basically I would recommend using itamatrix or aa.com to price things up and adjust your itinerary to what you want.

In terms of booking your options are to book on aa.com or call BA and book over the phone. Don't use the multicity tool on BA.com as it doesn't really work well with these kinds of itineraries. You could book via a TA if you wanted but I can't see the point of that.

EDIT: one last booking option is to send a PM to dutch_122. He works for BA and can set up the booking on the system. You get a PNR from dutch_122 and can then phone BA to make the payment to get it ticketed.

He is covering QR as well but still works for BA I understand. No reduction in his ability to cover BA and help us.

Very welcome news. ^

I'm a QR fan but their biggest downside is that, currently, anything beyond the simplest return seems to throw their website into virtual meltdown.

Does the QR ticketing mean QR are no longer enforcing that all tickets be booked through Qatar?

Will PM you in June with a few bookings I'll need to make :-)

Bear in mind that there is a BA DUB-LCY service which started in October 2014 and there is an early morning arrival in to LCY you can do a same day connection from DUB arriving at 0820 and connecting on to BA1 departing at 0945. No more 210 TPs for the babybus though.

There is also a AY DUB-HEL service which started in March 2015 and running until late October 2015 which you may be able to add in, so DUB-HEL-LHR/LCY-JFK- etc. DUB-HEL only gets 40 TPs as shorthaul+ is only exUK and the 80 TP rate would only apply to HEL-LHR.
