Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520

Just booked a DUB-LCY-JFK-PHX-HNL run via cheaptickets.com. I was wondering if anyone has experience using this service?

I diligently checked all the flights I wanted, booked them and received a "booking request confirmation" via e-mail, with BA/US/AA booking references and all the flights displaying correctly. E-ticket just arrived now, repeating the confirmed flights.

However, now when I went to check MMB on ba.com and on checkmytrip.com, I noticed something peculiar. Both show all flights OK except on the inbound HNL-PHX and PHX-JFK are missing TP count is showing this as well.

Now I'm just wondering whether or not this is an IT issue with displaying so many flights, or if there is an issue with ticketing. To add to my confusion, my AA and US booking references don't work at all.

Is there a way for me to check somewhere the flights under my e-ticket? Can't seem to be able to do this on ba.com.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

EDIT: It seems the outbound is AA ticketed, the inbound US ticketed. Managed to pull the AA booking which shows the outbound ticketed, and also the US booking which displays the inbound correctly. Still confused as to what the BA booking code shows.

If the booking was ticketed on AA or US ticket stock, AA (or US) will own the booking (well actually the TA will own the booking, but anyway). BA will not be told about all the sectors. BA will only hear about sectors it needs to know about.

However, when the sectors are flown, BA will receive appropriate information for tier point awarding purposes.

Thanks, first time doing this HNL thing so I guess confusion and panic at the outset is inevitable.

I played around with the different booking codes on various websites, and so far got all flights accounted for and everything seems to be just fine. ^

Not many WTP fare in this thread, but I just booked a return in WTP for CPH-PEK-CPH for a total of 644 GBP - including the upgrade with Avios to CW for the outward leg

That isn't below 3GBP/TP I know, but you can also route through HKG for 655 GBP, and some flights on CX also have a premium economy cabin, so in that case you get 90 (BA/T)+ 10 (BA/K) + 25 (CX/E) each way giving a total of 250 TPs, so 2.62GBP/TP.

Fare basis is TLNCSALE - book by April 30th. There is also something in the fare rules under Seasonal Restrictions "PERMITTED 20AUG 15 THROUGH 05DEC 15.". Not sure what that means, as I my return date is well into 2016.

Example itinerary: (sorry, text only)

Code:
Copenhagen (CPH) to Beijing (PEK) - Wed, Sep 2
British Airways 815 Dep: 1:50PM Arr: 2:50PM 2h Airbus A319 Coach (K)
   Layover in LHR 3h 50m
British Airways 25 Dep: 6:40PM Arr: 1:35PM 11h 55m Airbus A380 Premium-coach (T)
Layover in HKG Thu, Sep 3 3h 25m
Cathay Pacific 312 Dep: 5:00PM Arr: 8:25PM 3h 25m Boeing 747 Premium-coach (E)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beijing (PEK) to Copenhagen (CPH) - Wed, Oct 28
Cathay Pacific 391 Dep: 1:30PM Arr: 5:20PM 3h 50m Boeing 777 Premium-coach (E)
   Layover in HKG 6h 25m
British Airways 28 Dep: 11:45PM Arr: 5:00AM 13h 15m Boeing 777 Premium-coach (T)
Layover in LHR Thu, Oct 29 1h 45m
British Airways 812 Dep: 6:45AM Arr: 9:35AM 1h 50m Airbus A319 Coach (K)

FARE AND BOOKING DETAILS

Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code K, T, E
Covers CPH-LHR (Economy), LHR-HKG (Premium economy), HKG-PEK (Premium economy)
Fare 2: Carrier BA TLNCSALE BJS to CPH GBP159.06

BA YQ surcharge (YQ) GBP247.40
Danish Passenger Service Charge (ZO) GBP16.70
China CN (CN) GBP9.80
Subtotal per passenger GBP654.49
Number of passengers x1
Total airfare & taxes GBP654.49
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This only reduced my small balance by 12500, but certainly a good final hurrah for the cheap Avios-neutral WTP-to-CW deal. Great while it lasted. I would have upgraded both legs, but I plan to use the return leg in May 2016 (too far out to book).

When I first called to book the ticket the agent asked me for my exact desired dates in May and said he would add a note to the booking so I could make the change for free (assuming T/K availability). We got as far as starting to go over the payment details (6666.6 DKK ...) and then the Skype call dropped. Pretty annoyed but when called again a different agent said she would just put "will change for return in May" in the notes. Actually quite useful as I am not exactly sure of the dates yet. Better still she also priced the ticket in GBP, so that also saved me something in forex fees.

Also now that I also have some flexibility in fixing the return leg I should be able to find a flight with upgrade space WTP->CW, so even with the new Avios upgrade cost that should be around 690 GBP + 20000 (net) Avios for a return CPH-PEK in CW. I'll settle for that.

It helps if you read the next sentence

Code:
SEASONALITY
PERMITTED 20AUG15 THROUGH 05DEC15. SEASON IS BASED ON
   DATE OF ORIGIN.

Ouch! That does certainly make things clearer. Interesting though that the fare rules pulled up from a fare search on ITAMatrix search don't contain that clarification (honest guvnor!)

Local question ?

If I book today, will an EDI-ABZ give me 40 TPs as 10 for each leg ?

I am looking at cash plus some of my miles.

Although my TP year runs until 8th Feb, with previous flights and a holiday booking I am shy of 110TPs for gold but starting to suffer from flight deprivation... Haven't flown since 2nd April! I have a free weekend on 27/6 so before I pull the trigger tonight on a MAN/LHR/HAM for 338 for 120TP, can anybody offer any other good alternatives? Happy with any destination. Can only do one night as have to be at work on Monday.

Most destinations are good for a night. If it's simply a TP exercise then I would chose a place I have never been that is amongst the cheapest. What are your other options?

Hamburg was coming up as the cheapest.
ORY, CDG, AMS DUB, FRA were all showing sub-400 return.

Well you have a decent selection there. Any of those are good for an overnight, it really depends what you're looking for!

Very often BGO and SVG are quite cheap.

I am booking a TP run today that involves a MIA-PHX leg in F (well, P). I'm staring at the BA Tier Points calculator right this minute, which is showing 60 (!!) TPs for that leg, in F. Shouldn't it be 210? If it's not, this is going to be an expensive and wasteful TP run...
