That was expected to come soon.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see BA put on some additional frequencies to LCA.

I'm not sure if the CY reduction to one daily has only just been confirmed on the reservation systems but it has only just appeared on airline route.

I hope MrSimonR is right that BA will add capacity but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I can think of 2 other recent examples: OK pulling out of LHR in winter 2010 and MA going bust in 2012. In neither of those cases did BA add capacity to PRG or BUD. So, much as I'd like BA to add another frequency to LCA it's probably not inevitable that they will. And if they do it could just as well be from LGW rather than LHR. I hope i'm wrong.

By the way, is anyone else having trouble accessing this thread on the FT app? Mine goes into melt down everytime I try opening this (and only this) thread.

I understand that the route is performing well, that W13/14 was up on the previous year, that the LGW route is doing much better than projected.

I understand that the impact of the CY frequency reduction (loss of an early evening flight to LHR and loss of the late evening flight back to LCA) is being looked at.

The BA route to LCA continues to perform very strongly. It could be helped even more if Cyprus Airways continues to implode...

"The Watchdog Committee was to discuss, among others, the sale of the company’s final time slot at Heathrow airport."

In fact it looks like the slot HAS to be sold under the CY viability plan. Let's hope BA adds some capacity when this happens.

I hope they do! From May to September the prices are already stupidly high because of the increased holiday traffic, therefore if additional capacity is not introduced, it will mean bad news for us travellers!

CY confirms the sale of its last slot to AA. Last CY flight to be 13 Sep 2014. They're shifting their capacity to STN from the following day.

BA should be really pleased about this. Fingers crossed for some capacity increase either at LHR or LGW.

Cyprus is desperate for a morning flight to LHR to connect to North America, and an evening flight back to Cyprus. No competition on the route any more suggests this might work to reinstate a 2nd LHR flight.

I can't see a Stansted flight working for CY. Sadly I think their days could be numbered...

CY used to have a STN-PFO/LCA flight operating several times a week. It always had the cheapest fares, nothing like the LHR-LCA fares.

Keeping my fingers crossed on this. And while we're at it would it be too much to ask for CW service? [tongue firmly in cheek]

This can happen with big threads. I have extracted the 2014 posts into a new thread (this one) and archived the previous posts in a separate thread, linked below,

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...r-larnaca.html

Hopefully that will resolve the problems you've been experiencing. If not, please let me know.

Cheers,

You've got to book early!

I've just nabbed some economy (exit) seats for £150 each for next Easter!

I'm considering a mid-winter break in Cyprus around New Year. I'm not looking for sun bathing weather, just somewhere sunnier than here would do fine. So, a few questions for you LCA regulars

1) is the LCA flight really that bad? I'm tempted to treat myself to go CE at least on the outbound.
2) Where is the best place to go? I'm assuming the more touristy resorts will be fairly dead at that time of year but is Larnaca and/or Phapos lively enough
3) If not LCA then where else is nice at that time of year that isn't going to break the bank? I've also thought about a few nights in ATH plus an island trip. just a shame that the Mykonos service doesn't operate in the winter.
