Based on a sample of 1 (BA2645 yesterday), things seem to have returned to "normal":
Plane doors open 16:48
Through UK border control 16:58 (8min walk from plane, 2 mins through the e-gates)
Reclaim belt number displayed 17.06
First bag on belt 17.07
My bags on belt 17.10
All very satisfactory.

... and ... relax!

Just a quick question, is Gatwick baggage handling still horrifically slow?
Landing next week on BA2965, and trying to work out if I'd have enough time to make a reservation at the Sofitel for dinner before bed!

According to LGW's last monthly report, BA delivered all shorthaul bags at LGW within 35 mins 92% of the time, and longhaul bags within 50 mins 94% of the time.
So hopefully, your bags should be with you in a timely manner- especially given the amount of time it can take to get through immigration.
Hopefully that helps a little.

Thanks for the replies!
Haven't been through Gatwick in over a year, but remember the last time I ended up regretting checking in bags, unfortunately going on a self catering holiday, so checking-in bags essential this time!

I'm sure CWS would manage without checking in bags.
