A comment from BA states: ''We have been given no reason to expect any issues this weekend at Gatwick, either from the airport authority or Swissport. We will continue to work with Swissport to improve the levels of service to our customers.'[/QUOTE]

Really! Well LGW is all over the news with the airport warning passengers that their bags may not travel with them. BA should be aware of this

It's standard corporate PR BS. Naturally, you would not expect Swissport to tell BA that they will drop the ball this weekend. And, even if they did tell BA such a thing, there is no way BA would come out and say it in public.

Hopefully this will have a positive knock-on effect on the BA service, though for now I would never check in an bag on BA to LGW.

For the HBO business community, that may be an option.
For those of us who have to connect through JER on holiday regularly, it is not.

If you're connecting, you'll be supping Champagne in the lounge, rather than waiting by the carousel, won't you?

Not if your onward flight leaves from LHR.

Thank you!

My regular LGW-LHR driver knows these things, as he's an expert professional. And I always compensate him with an extra £5 for his parking charges while he waits for us to escape from bloody LGW before we set off towards the outskirts of LHR.

More news, Gatwick offers baggage home delivery. All sounds a bit desperate.

Interesting quote towards the end from the LGW representative:

A spokesperson said: "Although bags are being delivered on time for 95 per cent of flights, this is not good enough.

"This has been frustrating for passengers and we are disappointed with the recent arrival baggage service. Swissport has committed to getting this right, and we are working closely with them to help. Gatwick is providing additional staff.

"Although we are not permitted to unload the aircraft, we are assisting with transport of bags to the terminal and the unloading of bags onto belts. We've also introduced a free baggage home delivery service for those who prefer not to wait."
So it sounds like LGW clearly have lost confidence in Swissport to put enough staff on and are putting their own staff in to assist with transport of bags to the terminal and putting them on the belts.

How utterly refreshing it is that LGW actually cares about its reputation - they've already done something about security, which is now miles better than LHR, and when there is a problem with baggage which threatens to reflect on the airport, they deal robustly with it. If there were only more OW flights out of LGW going where I want to go I'd gladly choose them over LHR every time.

55 minutes.

Does anyone know how Monarch have managed to insource their operation so fast? Was it in the pipeline already? Or did they just hire a bunch of Swissport workers () who are already cleared to work airside?
