Welcome to the threadbut please read this bit first
New to the thread? Welcome! If you are asking about obtaining tier points in the current sale, please read the following posts first.
  • from DUB, IL28SALE - to US reported here, e.g. JFK - 1140, LAX - 1395, HNL - 1395, needs to be booked by 27 Jan, see linked post for valid travel periods
  • from CPH, IL28SALE - to US reported here, e.g. JFK - 804, LAX - 1149, HNL - 1220, needs to be booked by 27 Jan, see linked post for valid travel periods
  • from BRU, IL28SALE - to US reported here, e.g. JFK - 1344, LAX - 1367, HNL - 1465, needs to be booked by 15 Jan, see linked post for valid travel periods

If your question is not answered there, or you want more help, please do post in the Business Class IL28SALE fares: DUB/CPH/BRU to North America thread and join in.

In the rest of this wiki, we keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers
  • Tickets issued on non-BA stock
TA has to issue the ticket in the country of your BAEC membership as well.

Notes
  • The ITA Matrix tool cannot be used to book tickets.
  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.
  • A guide to using the ITA Matrix tool can be found here.

Well spotted. That's what happens when I am trying to do several things at once and don't concentrate on what I post. Meant head to HEL on Saturday night and come back on Sunday morning.

I can recommend the hilton at the airport btw for anyone doing a run to HEL, especially if you get one of the rooms with an in-room sauna.

Reviewing my upcoming US Airways trip. On their website it now correctly says (British Airways) after my BAEC number - was previously just (). Also MMB is now at least in vaguely the right ballpark for predicted Avios earning. Predicted TPs still seems way off, but definite progress! Also good to have the earning rates confirmed online - hats off to owenrudge.net, his TP/Avios calculator has it all built-in, so have happily run a revised version with my routing and looks good!

This happened to me earlier this month and scared me sufficiently to post this over on the AA board.

I later cleared all cookies etc., logged into my AAdvantage account and looked up my active reservations: the list is empty. I don't think we need to be worried, especially as we've confirmed that our BAEC numbers are still in the booking, but it's odd behaviour and I will watch carefully when checking in to make sure that my BAEC number is on my BP. I'll post here if things aren't as they should be (my flight is on Friday).

For a few years I credited some flights to AA, since at the time there was a point when there was no additional benefit of crediting them the BAEC - the scheme was very different in those days. For years afterwards my AA number crept into bookings no matter what I did. I killed off the account eventually, but it was a real pain. So unfortunately this may become a bit of an ongoing nuisance. By deploying your BAEC card at check-in, lounges and so on you should be able to head off your flights crediting to AA, however the worst case scenario is that you have to rearrange for the AA credit to be cancelled, and then BAEC can claim the relevant TPs / Avios, which took at least 2 months to do. It happened in about a quarter of my flights during this period, despite all my best endeavours.

Moral of the story: never create an AA account unless you have a very good reason for doing so.

Try to locate your PNR on the AA website by; go to AA.com, click AAdvantage on the header, then click "My Trips" below, then scroll down and log in (if you have not already), next click the blue "Find a Reservation" and complete the area below headed "Don't Know Your Record Locator" and this will give you your AA PNR or record locator.

Once you make a booking on AA and enter your BAEC number for flight credit, the flight will no longer appear in your upcoming flights on your AAdvantage account after 24 hours. You can access it with the AA Record Locator, from above. Once you pull up the record, you can check to be sure your BAEC number is on the booking.

Hope this helps.

Here's hoping, although corporate-wage-slave's experience doesn't bode well (albeit of course a different scenario)

Thanks, bucknjeff, but you took my post out of context -- I'm pleased and relieved that my booking doesn't show when I'm logged in at aa.com, because I don't want it to be associated with my AAdvantage account. I haven't mislaid the PNR.

This isn't an option for anyone wanting to enjoy the numerous good things about AAdvantage, but it is a reminder that it might help to use a different email address. Thanks -- I'm going to go over to aa.com right now and change the one I've got on file with them. @:-)

Any suggestions for a TP run from BOS - for the weekend of 12 to 13/Sept?

I could depart BOS on 11/Sep Friday evening at the earliest and I need to be back in BOS by Sunday night.

At the moment, the best I can come up with is a business class return trip to SJU. Price = $863.00
At that price, I don't think I would bother.

Quite agree on that SJU trip. As it's <2000 miles and Business, [for direct flights] only 80+80 TP for $ 863, eqv 519 , TP/ 0,308.

Five times better would be BOS-PHX-BOS on US air, as of today full OW member. Domestic F > 2000 miles generates 210+210 TP for $1080, eqv 649, /TP 1,54 (Hence the five times!)

Still costly compared to what we were getting a few weeks/months ago.

Does anyone actually know when the prices all went up by 2-3x?

I was going to do a couple of runs in Oct/Nov when I have to be on the east coast but other than something involving HNL...HNL or ex-BRU, there's no real cost effective way of getting TPs in the US anymore.

I can do a quick LHR-HEL-LHR for possibly 120 less than the 437+ BOS-JFK-DCA-MIA-SJU run and get the same TPs without having to take a load more flights (the JFK-DCA being American Eagle economy so no tier points?)

Oct/Nov is some time away yet. Has anyone even fully explored US Airways fares yet?

NB. The Avios Calculator seems to award 20/70 TP for economy (discounted) trips on US metal—some mistake surely?—and 100% earning (not 25% like other lesser OW partners).

I have a short US segment (not a TP run!) in discount Y later this month, I will let you know how it posts.

The occasional flight pops up in mixed US/AA bookings but generally involve US in economy.

I've checked every day from the end of Mar to the end of Jan 2015 and there are very little differences in the fares. 95% of all the runs above are at least double what they were previously.
I've always picked up the decent fares months in advance (even allowing for the usual August seasonal timetable changes that alter timings).

HNL-LAX-MIA-SAL comes in at 437 for 460TP and that's about the best I've found (LAX-MIA overnight else you pay 12+ more to fly in business on the 777 during the day which gives a reduced 390TP).
Close to 800 if you want the return.

The SJU-MIA-(MCO)-LAX-LAS run has gone from 291 to the high 700s on every date.
Think high 500s if you miss out MCO.

Having travelled enough in previous years to get BA Silver I now see that I am 150 TPs short of retaining it with no travel planned between now and my deadline of the 8th June.

LHR > HEL > LHR in club looks to be the easiest solution to get the necessary points. Flying out one Friday after work, hotel on points, back on Saturday evening, 369. Plus I'd quite like to see the place anyway.

Any reason why I shouldn't do this routing? I'm based between Heathrow and Gatwick if there are any other alternatives. I tried MLA but couldn't get the dates to work.

Admittedly it is a bit speculative because I think I'll be travelling a lot again next year and my employer only allows premium economy but worth it I think, and it should be fun if I can encourage somebody to join me.
