Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers

  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.
  • A guide to using the ITA Matrix tool can be found here.

AA's record locator is issued by Sabre; Finnair uses Amadeus.

Good evening, I have a flight to Miami on the 8th of May and a flight home from Boston on the 12th May. So a great opportunity to earn some Ba miles during my trip. I have reserved a flight from Mia to Lax and the Lax to Boston netting me 420 points costing 600. Do I just book through AA and add my BA FF number to make sure the points are credit to my BA account ? Also does anyone have a better proposal to earn more points? Thanks

No reason to get worried yet, it should be ticketed within the next 24 hours.

I'm not 100% sure, but the Finnair trick may not work if you don't have an Amadeus reference, which you may not have if you're flying an AA-only itinerary. You may have more luck asking about this in the AA forum.

Hi, and welcome to FT!

That's a good start in your first post. Given MIA and BOS are unchangeble, I doubt if you'll find anything cheaper, it's 1.43/TP, which, if comparing to TPruns in the wiki, is good. You might try other west "coast" destinations, like SAN, SFO and LAX, but doubt if they are cheaper than LAX. Quickly playing a little on aa.com, I found MIA-LAX-DEN-LAX-BOS for $1107, but that's only 120 TP extra, /TP rises to almost 2. Sometimes intra-east (or west) coast connections do not cost extra, or rather little. Try a connection north of MIA en route to LAX.

For BAEC credit do exactly as you described.

Sabre gives a PNR with letters only, Amadeus letters and numbers.

Just give AA a call to get your Amadeus PNR, and you'll have no trouble using MMB

What I suggest you do is call AA again, and tell them you want to change the frequent flyer number to your BA number. They must have screwed up last time you tried.

[Sabre and Amadeus are two different "global distribution systems", basically the computer database systems used to make electronic ticket reservations and purchases.]

Hello Carnoustiegowfer and welcome to FlyerTalk! Yes, you can just book it through AA, but when you are asked to log into your AAdvantage account, say "No" and continue without logging in. Then you will be given the chance to add your BA frequent flyer number. Presumably you did all of this already during the reservation process?

Now, I found MIA-LAX-DEN//DEN-LAX-BOS for 516, out Friday 9th, stay one night in Denver and return, Saturday 10th; that would get you 210+60+60+210 = 540 tier points at 0.95 / TP. You would have to find a night's accommodation in Denver, and overnight at Miami, and you get two days in Boston. Just enough time for another TP run perhaps! Or alternatively Boston is a great place to spend a couple of days

First QR TP Run Completed

Last week I returned from ARN-DOH-BKK.
Bookable for a few more days on QR website.
Less than 1300GBP and 560TP.

Half on Dreamliner, half on 300ER
All planes on the 4 legs were less than a year old.

Incredible experience. I'll never fly Club World again on a route served by QR.

I spoke to a lady in the Didsbury call centre: From tomorrow 35 change/canx fee coming in for Golds which is supposed to prevent last minute cancellations to preserve Avios seats.

There's a pre-prepared script they have saying that Virgin charge 31, Air France 48 and Lufthansa something or over and therefore BA is bringing themselves in line with them... That sounds like a terrible PR message.

Emails are being prepared to go out tomorrow which means 0 days notice. Seems incredible.

Yep, that's return. What's even more incredible is when they have their 2 for 1 sale on the higher priced fares. Less than 2000GBP for TWO return fares to BKK. I have an alert set for those.

Here is the link for the last 2 4 1. The prices have been identical. Prices are in SEK.

Help me out here folks.

I've looked up the following itinerary on aa.com and the fare is 1076. If I try and book the same outbound but only going from HNL to LAX and not returning to SJU via MIA on the return it's several hundred pounds more expensive.

Now, couldn't I just book this fare and get off at LAX and not bother catching the flights to MIA and SJU?

Would I get my 810TP's?
