welcome to FT, the BAEC forum and in particular this thread!

those sort of runs are neat, cheap ones for anyone needing relatively small amounts.

AA flights from SFO to LAS (via LAX) are other good ones. can be had for £320 ish (from memory) and earn 240 TPs.

Immigration at MIA is a nightmare from all the stories I have heard and it makes it very difficult to guess what length of connection time you need to leave for MIA. With a incoming flight from SJU, STT, or STX you do not have that problem and can confidently book a short connection.
Many Thanks for the advice and suggestions
Its all a learning curve and getting there thanks to you all..

Lol Point taken and thanks, hadn't realised that MIA is a nightmare for immigration, so, will attempt the alternates via say, SJU..
Thanks for the warning :-)

I'm not sure I understand the complete route Windsor001 wants to do, but if you are based in the UK, I would aim for a ex-EU-HNL via LCY-JFK and then a nested run HNL-SJU, stop there and go up to MIA to visit your friends and then go back the same way.

That should net you close to 3k TP if done right. And if booked during a sale, you should be close to £1/TP.
Many Thanks Agehall

I saw the A321 on the MIA/LAX and presumed to be the new transcon flagship, thank goodness I didn't book it..
So, have to have a re-think...

To maximise TP's do you have to go south to SJU/STT etc?
I don't quite understand the importance.
I'd be happy doing LCY/JFK/LAX/HNL/LAX/MIA/JFK/LCY but would I forfeit important TP's for a route like this do you think?
Much appreciate all of you guys assistance and advice.. Thank You

Me too. I've walked in to find 10 immigration agents sat, bored, waiting for the next batch of pax. I've never waited more than 15 minutes.

Must have just been lucky, I guess.

just to be clear, the 321 that is appearing on the MIA/LAX is not their new flagship transcon service. it should be a normal 2 flass (3 class if you include MCE) service so you will be able to book into F at usual F prices (i.e. it's not a plane to avoid for TP running reasons).

SJU, STT, CUN (which requires clearing of immigration as it's abroad whilst the others are US territories), etc often are cheap 'destinations' or 'starting points'. the TPs earned from MIA are minimal (40 in J and given they are international flights, they are J rather than F even though it's the same seat). a LAX - MIA - STT flight will be much much cheaper than a LAX - MIA flight. So it's not about going south or west or east but about the fact that a routing to or from these places often gives you a great deal (in the region or even below £1 per TP).

if you did the routing you describe and are buying a J ticket, you'll be in business class from JFK to LAX on their 321 Flagship Transcon thus earning 140 TPs rather than 210 if you were in F (or took a flight from BOS, PHL, MIA etc to LAX (needs to be over 2,000)). that's still a popular route though as J on the 321Transcon is a good product (I've only done F on it but reviews are good).

finally, in case you arent aware, the tickets we talk about on here that involve LCY - JFK - LAX - HNL are ex EU tickets, i.e. starting in AMS, DUB or somewhere else in the EU to get a good price.

I would imagine a ticket LCY - HNL starting in LCY will be very expensive....

hope that makes sense.

Anyone found anything ex-EU recently to the US? Ideally West Coast? Best I can do is DUB-MCO for €1900ish on US. Not exactly deal of the century.

Hi all,

I will be in the States (in Jacksonville, FL area) during the last week of August and the first 2 weeks of September and looking to ensure that I get enough TP to re-qualify for Silver for another year. Something between 250-300 should do the trick, so is that a fairly straight forward positioning flight (can use Avios for that) to either MIA or DFW and then to LAX or SJU respectively? Or is there something better -- from both travel and value for money perspective -- that I am missing?

Many thanks in advance

Chris1979 THANK YOU

Yes much more clear.
Now I understand why it was so much more to fly LAX MIA than LAX/MIA/GCM for example.. I can get a cheap return to say AMS and then use the AMS/LCY/JFK.
Is there a way of seeing the actual TP's you're earning per sector, I've installed ITA Software for flights, process and availability but I guess it all depends which alliance you're with.
Being Oneworld, I'd be looking at AA in F and use the table at the beginning of the thread I guess?

Appreciate your info and advice. Makes things a little easier in one sense and harder in another :-)
