EWR and JFK

I'm in a similar conundrum... got JFK and the UD of the 744 JFK-LHR, but can only get LHR-EWR on the way home. Bummed about the 777 and non-AVOD, especially since it's a daytime flight on the way back. I did an MFU from WT+... anyone ever had luck changing from EWR to JFK if inventory opens up? Or would they charge a change fee, even though it's the same city destination?
