As far as I'm aware, YQs are not charged on tickets exBrazil, but because you've booked a return, the YQ will be added.
hmm I didnt know this before.
But good to know for my next booking. Thanks.

First redemption - straightforward!

First post and first redemption. Was a bit concerned reading all the previous posts on this subject but needn't have worried. This morning I redeemed miles only for BD Economy LHR-CAS-LHR (2 pax) at end of June. Agent 'Brian' efficient. No problems, whole 'phone call took 5 mins. Had checked availability of seats beforehand on ExpertFlyer database and could see only 2 seats taken on outbound and all seats free for return so wasn't expecting any difficulty. Taxes etc. £210 as expected.

Well, for Biz it should be £567 per pax as below, so I'd check with your credit card before taking action to see what's been charged.

Miles + cash should be 37500 + £255

credit card fee of £4.50

ITA shows taxes as £307.80 as below

LH YQ surcharge (YQ) £137.70
German Passenger Service Charge (RA) £16.30
Swiss Airport Passenger Security & Noise Charge (CH) £27.80
LX YQ surcharge (YQ) £103.50
Brazil Embarkation Tax (BR) £22.50

Re the ticket, check tomorrow and if no ticket no in checkmytrip then do ring the ICC to chase ticketing
I checked today. They charged exactly what you calculated, 567 Pounds. :-)
Thanks

No problem, Do you have an e ticket number yet?

Also, you can of course reserve seats on the LH website.

For two adults, on a cash and miles basis for one-way flights in November:

EZE-FRA LH511 in J
FRA-LHR LH906 in J

Cost per passenger:
Cash element: £127.50
Taxes: £263.50
Credit card fee: £4.50
TOTAL: £395.50

I don't have a breakdown of the tax calculation used (and the agent I spoke to that made the booking didn't break this down any further for me). However, it's obviously overstated and I think this must be due to being over-charged Argentina Ticket Tax (AR) which should be an amount that is zero, or at least close to it. I estimate that the AR element included in the taxes above is probably in the region of £120 per passenger.

I've fired off an e-mail to BMI to see if I can get this refunded so I'll wait and see what happens.

Yes I can see the e-ticket number now in checkmytrip.
Everything worked very fine and easy for my first redemption.

per ITA

Argentina Ticket Tax (AR) £85.40
LH YQ surcharge (YQ) £97.40
German Airport Security Tax (DE) £5.80
German Passenger Service Charge (RA) £16.30
Argentina Airport Tax (XR) £18.10
Argentina Immigration Tax (QO) £6.20
Argentina Security Tax (TQ) £1.60

Total £230.80
so wrong even including the AR unless its based on a notional full price this was on £1,707.94. Let us know how you get on there seems to be some debate as to whether AR should be charged although some people have apparently got it refunded, whether in part only I don't know.

Correct.

exBrazil would be worthwhile booking a return opposed to two one-ways.

Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on. It's clear the AR I was charged is based on a much higher figure than the ITA quoted flight price. Perhaps it's based on a fully flexible ticket price (although I suspect that would be even more). I got an out of office from the e-mail account that I wrote to but that was just to say that they have a 10 working-day turnaround time for responses.

Snagged one-way F on LX 161 NRT-ZRH-(J) MXP yesterday for 3rd September 2011.

Nice daytime flight ex NRT plus a couple of hours in the LX F lounge in ZRH.

Flight spotted on the ANA website.

Miles and cash: 31,250 plus a total GBP212.50 cash and GBP 203.50 in fees/taxes (ouch). Nice job once I eventually got through.

Just 18,750 left in the pot (need a ow cash and miles Zone 1-3 August 21/22 in J).

Is this possible to claim the tax recalculation? Can I do it by email (my English is not enough to talk on the phone)?

Yes just drop them a email at the dc.admin email address with a brief explanation and then sit back and wait 2 weeks to follow up the email with a reminder. That normally does it.
