As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

As for the "pay now" question, you will be charged for the full price of the rental up-front. As for whether you will be charged for insurance or not depends on whether you are booking an insurance-inclusive rate or not. Some rates do include coverage while others do not. Oftentimes it has to do with what your home country is set to on the website. You definitely need to pay attention during the booking process if you are in need of insurance.

Avis will need to swipe your card (or if you're an Avis preferred member they will already have it on-file). They will often take a hold equivalent to around 200 USD/EUR on the card as well to cover any incidentals.
Thank you very much for clarifying. Yes, the insurance is mandatory when I tested it a short while ago on the german avis website. I added PA (anti-theft was mandatory) and selected GPS as well. Came to 99 euro.

Will give the code below a go. I would rather drive a merc on the Autobahn than a volkswagen in all honesty but anyways, the final cost will determine what I end up renting.

thanks once again for your help..

Did you use a code for this? or did it just come up at a good price?

Premium SUV is not avail to rent from TPA and drop off at ECP. It is avail for same location drop off. What is the one way drop off fee if I decide to drop off at ECP?

There is no way to know this up-front since it's technically not supported. You'd have to just rent and call them during the rental. It's likely to be expensive since they're likely going to need to find a way to get it back to TPA since they almost never allow Premium SUVs to move between different locations, so it could easily be a few hundred dollars or more. You'd be a lot safer (price-wise) doing a one-way rental with a Minivan.

K250544 waives the underage fee (I'm just shy of the age requirement...), the underage fee would probably kill any discounts possible with A552300.

I will still check out A552300 though.. but still looking for people with experience using K250544 recently (maybe within the last year or so?)

I believe his point is, why locked in a prepay rate when you can book the pay at the counter rate and monitor the price, so you can change the booking if price drops a lot, without incurring any penalty as in the prepaid booking.

You have to understand that rental car rates are DYNAMIC - all depends on how the location's inventory picture going into the week of your rental. I have seen rate dropped by 30% going in, as well as running out of cars. It can go both ways but booking a pay at the counter rate gives the flexibility should the rates fall, while guarantee you a car. As long as the rental car companies do not go the direction the hotel chains, i.e. impose a fee on late cancellation, I honestly dont see why people book a prepay rate to lock themselves weeks or even months ahead.

Holy cow.

The car rental aside, all the added fees/insurance added on even with a visa travel discount code is massive!

The taxes/fees/insurance alone are double the actual car rental fee for a C Class Mercedes for 24 hours!

Well you also have $71 in options added on (which of course are taxed as well). Additionally, it's a one-way rental so there may be a one-way drop fee as part of those charges (you don't show the breakdown so it's impossible to tell).

I honestly dont see why you are surprised.

It is no secret that in US the taxes / airport fees / local fees etc etc would often account for 30 to 60% of the rental rate itself. Pretty sure this is similar pattern in EU. There are a few countries in EU such as Croatia. the one-way drop off fee is relatively reasonable, but not Germany though.

Given it is only a 24 hours rental it is only one single day, the one-way drop off fee could very well be out of proportion higher as usually the one-way fee is a FIXED fee. It would be significantly lower in proportion when the rental is 2 weeks, versus just 24 hours.

With the add-on option and one-way drop off you have, and you are surprised?

Need help with Avis employee discount code.

I was trying to book a car through Avis. Put in my wizard number, put in the AWD G883000 (which too forever to find and was buried on the avisbudgetneighborhood site) and finally when i got the total, the price of the rental was the same as using a site like carrentalsavers...

I must be doing something wrong, is there some other employee discount code(s) that an employee can use to get a better rate?

So you are just looking for some random discount code for a company that you don't work to get a better discount? Why don't you just use a discount code you actually qualify for?

[moderated out deleted message]

G883000 is not an Avis employee code. It's the Avis Friends & Family discount code that can be used by anyone as per this post on the official Avis Twitter account:
.

so apparently talking to my boss there is not just a simple employee discount code one can use. There must be a letter and approved to a supervisor or some such complication. It doesn't seem worth the hassle, and I'll just use a travel website somewhere and be done with all this nonsense and convoluted mess that avis puts an employee through just to save a few bucks

Agreed. If he is truly an Avis employee, then he should ask his HR dept. for the correct code, which I would guess should not be made available to the public. This site is not the place for that.
