Avis system now flags an account if it has used more than one corporate code. I was challenged - although mildly - at the Avis counter when I went to pick my car. The rep showed me the screen (standard mainframe screen) that had the two codes I had used recently and asked me who do I work for. Looks like Avis is doing all sorts of things to limit any revenue leakage from usage of corporate discount codes.

Thanks for the heads-up. The answer is in being able to claim independent contractor status and carrying some form of business card or official letterhead. (My chrome pocket business-card holder bears the logo of one of my corporate code entities.)

But no mind...I'm now doing all sorts of things to limit any revenue leakage from giving money to Avis!

I have my own Avis code for my company, but it doesn't offer anywhere near what some of these codes offer. Avis created this madness by playing favorites with different entities, often regardless of the entity's size or revenue.

If Avis weren't so dodgy in their implementation, people wouldn't scramble around using others' codes in the first place.

I don't have an account. I don't really bother points or getting an "upgrade" to something that will cost me more gas at the expense of being forced into more expensive rentals.

Has anyone used A679100 (Hawaii State Bar association)? Did they ask for ID?

Thanks for the tip on avis.ca. Worked like a charm.

Can't believe the rate I got for a 2 day YUL rental with A972200.

This also got me a very nice discount on a one-way rental in the US recently. Had to use the avis.ca site. Previous posts from a year or two ago state that rentals using this code are not unlimited mileage, but it was unlimited in my case.

I'm looking at a one way rental in South Africa next week, between CPT and PLZ. A515100 (and B270898) both give ok rates for most of the cars (Hhonors is slightly better) but offer the option of a Premium car "contract" at an extremely attractive rate.
As mentioned elsewhere with the Bombardier AWD, this contract is mileage limited, but the amount of miles included seems to vary depending on the exact hour I book the car for, i.e. I get 420 miles included for returning the car at 3pm, and 490 for returning it at 7pm (incidentally neither of which quite cover the distance from CPT to PLZ). The base rate doesn't change, which seems rather strange. (Even adding a full extra day barely changes it.)

1) Changing away from an airport location does *not* change the mileage restriction. Has anyone had experience with this?

2) The confirmation email indicated the mileage limit was in km, not miles (same amount, different unit, i.e. 490 km instead of 490 miles), which is a substantial difference - however logging on to the reservation it continues to appear in miles, not km. Any idea what I will be held to?

3) If I make the reservation for an extra day, so as to include more miles, and then I return the car 'early' will the mileage allowance be pro-rated? There's no indication on the reservation that the mileage allowance is per hour/day.

Yes, all the time, and no, never been asked. OTOH I'm mostly renting in-state; YMMV elsewhere. And I am a legit HSBA member and could demonstrate that via the online directory if I ever needed to.

Whether it's miles or km depends on the country you're renting in. Since SA uses the metric system, all included mileage will be in kilometers.

As for the question about the mileage proration, it depends. The answer may be different depending on whether you're on a daily or a weekly rate. Can you be more specific about the rental period and whether Avis is showing a daily or a weekly rate?

You may try....................AWD Z063929 posting my own company code...... (SOHI ENTERPRISES).........I have had some good discounts with it (recently used for One Way).....but..........YMMV.......!! Please double check...!!

I assumed it would be in km, as you indicated, but on the Avis (US) website, it continues to show the amount in miles.

There is no indication as to what kind of rate this is - the reservation simply says the number of days, and then a base rate of $10.27 (this stays the same for a number of different dates in January that I tried). Again this is specifically for a Premium vehicle.

Hard to say for sure without seeing exactly what Avis.com is showing. Try pulling up your reservation at:

https://book.avis.co.za/yourBooking

-or-

https://www.avis.ca/car-rental/avisHome/home.ac

Avis' new US website leaves a lot to be desired.

No extra info on either of those sites unfortunately.
(SA site looks quite similar to the US one actually)
The whole rate seems strange as it doesn't vary no matter what dates and duration I put in.

Sounds like you'll need to call Avis to confirm then.

Just used it last week at HNL - was with 2 other families and none of us were asked. We arrived late so I am guessing no managers on site. I was avis preferred and other 2 families just had bookings - no issues.

I just used A972200 - posted recently. Midsize car rented from one regional airport and dropped off at a different regional airport was pricing at $140 US! With that code I got it down to $50 US!
