A552300 (Visa cardholder AWD) sems to also waive 100% of underage fees...

I googled it and it was a promo code that expired on 12/31/16 but for some reason it still works if you try and book a car with it

Often discount codes work well past their expiration date. In fact they did extend this one into 2017 but they didn't update the description on the page. However if you look at the T&C's on this page (very bottom) you will see that is says:

Rental must begin by December 31, 2017.

I'm looking at a one way rental in South Africa next week, between CPT and PLZ. A515100 (and B270898) both give ok rates for most of the cars (Hhonors is slightly better) but offer the option of a Premium car "contract" at an extremely attractive rate.
As mentioned elsewhere with the Bombardier AWD, this contract is mileage limited, but the amount of miles included seems to vary depending on the exact hour I book the car for, i.e. I get 420 miles included for returning the car at 3pm, and 490 for returning it at 7pm (incidentally neither of which quite cover the distance from CPT to PLZ). The base rate doesn't change, which seems rather strange. (Even adding a full extra day barely changes it.)

1) Changing away from an airport location does *not* change the mileage restriction. Has anyone had experience with this?

2) The confirmation email indicated the mileage limit was in km, not miles (same amount, different unit, i.e. 490 km instead of 490 miles), which is a substantial difference - however logging on to the reservation it continues to appear in miles, not km. Any idea what I will be held to?

3) If I make the reservation for an extra day, so as to include more miles, and then I return the car 'early' will the mileage allowance be pro-rated? There's no indication on the reservation that the mileage allowance is per hour/day.

Did you use this AWD ? It worked ? Is it miles or km ?
I'm going to South Africa next month.

Does anyone know why using the Costco promo code (B270898) on the Avis website is half the price of going right to costcotravel?

The discount code used at costcotravel.com is A108326. What makes you think B270898 is a Costco discount code?

It's not Costco.

I just used A972200 - posted recently. Midsize car rented from one regional airport and dropped off at a different regional airport was pricing at $140 US! With that code I got it down to $50 US!

Do not get too excited.

Look to see if you have unlimited miles included in your rate. If not, you may be faced with an unwelcome surprise...

Depending on how far away the two regional airports are, even $140 may be a good deal.

I think I'll maybe drive 50 to 75 miles.

Assuming 40 cents per mile at 75 miles, you should still save $60.00 excluding taxes.

It will not show up on the reservation. It's part of the negotiated contract for the AWD#. L093590 has free LDW. Trust me..I've had to use it unfortunately. But if you have an Amex card, I strongly recommend also buying their Premium Rental insurance for $19.95 per rental, as a backup. In your case that would come to about $.95 cents per day.

Do you know if this code still includes LDW?

Even if it did include LDW, it's tied to some company's account. Do you really think they are going to pay out if you have an accident? The first question they are going to ask is "Do you work for company X?" If you say yes then they are going to take down your information and check. If you don't check out, then they are going to send you a bill for the car you just totaled. Not a good position to be in.

Where on Expedia.com did you find the 25% discount?

recreant Feb 1, 2017 10:19 am

You can not find it on expedia, the discount was offered me (by expedia when browsing for car rental) because I did some hotel/flight bookings the previous weeks.
Note: I am from Europe and booked om a European expedia site, so maybe this code only works for rentals from Europe with European assurances.
The code works for others in Europe anyhow.
